hello all, i currently have a q6600 quad core stock at 2,4ghz, but my temperature is currently 60 celcius, which is very high, i bought another mother board, thought it could be my mobo, but its not, bought a new cpu cooler zalman cpns9700 still no luck still 56-65 celcius, i dont know what it could be can someone please help me out because iam very frustrated with my cpu being very very hot!!! i would really appreciate any help!!
Your motherboard doesn't effect it THAT much. I do need more info though. First of all what kind of case do you have? Did you replace the thermal paste? Is the cooler attached properly? Are those LOAD or idle temps?
i have a xg viper case, and those are temp when i first boot my pc up, and i use some kind of thermal paste, dont know which brand tho! whats the normal temp for quad core?
My Q6600 (checked it today) was at 50 celcius at idle. You need Artic Silver paste and some additional case fans.
Actually 50C at IDLE is kinda high. It should be around 40C for a stock speed CPU. Of course that is in a good airflow case and your room temp is not terribly high either. It can be a combination of all these things. Try optimizing your airflow. Can I see a pic of your case? I can't find it on newegg. LOCO, that seems a bit high. Did you OC your CPU?
Abuzar: firstly, his CPU isn't overclocked, read the post, and second, ever heard of google? lol There's something else at fault here too - I suggest cleaning off the old thermal paste using window&glass cleaner (does the job fine) then apply proper Arctic Silver V or Arctic cooling MX-2 paste, whichever you can lay your hands on, then see what temps you get. However, your case is pretty terrible for cooling a CPU as powerful as a Q6600 and should really also be replaced post haste.
I DID search on google, maybe it was my internet connection but all I found was the Viper 2, the pages that mentioned viper wouldn't open for me.
..and i'll bring up the rear with my stock Q6600's (with Zalman CPNS9700 too) idle temperature - 31C; i have the Antec 900 case with all standard fans (on lowest speed). Admittedly it's not summer yet (UK) but with the summer-like hot spells we've been having this year it'll only be around 40C idle in the summer.
Indeed. I've got one more day in a spacious downstairs room in my student house before I return to Essex for the summer - a pokey upstairs room - I'll see how my PC fares then. As it stands right now I'm not concerned with my temps at all, but I'm only running a humble dual core...
