Just ordered a qoob sx chip after seeing that it supports direct booting of DVDR and am looking forward to it. However on the homepage for the qoob chip it says that the bios`s they have on the web site only directly boot homebrew code and not backups. I have several backups that i wish to use and my question is will the chip be likely to arrive in a backup bootable state or will i have to hunt around for a usable bios? Any answers greatfully recieved!

Thanks for that. From the look of the forum there are lots of people playin backups on the qoob mod chip using several different bios versions (tho a few reporting bugs). I should have mine chipped and modtopped by the end of the week and i will report here how well it goes! Fingers crossed i think it will be perfect!!!!

Hi Ya. Well ive only been learning about the cube mod chip for a day or two but i can tell you what ive learnt so far. I got the qoob sx because as you said it is cheeper. the main difference i think is that the pro comes with a usb cable for flashing the bios as well as being more customizable at the menu screen with the ability to change the boot skin like evo-x on the xbox and also a built in mp3 player i have heard.
Both will prob come with the legal bios v1.0 which is fine for homebrew but will not be able to boot backups. To play backups you need to update the bios (v1.3a is the latest for both sx and pro). To do this you can burn the update onto a iso9660 dvd and pop it in and hold left on the d-pad at boot to go into a file manager to run it (tho if you have the pro you can do this via usb)
Im no expert so there may be other differences but both pro and sx are just as capable of playin backups. Ill have mine done hopefully by the end of week and ill let people know here how it goes.
    hope that was some help.
