Hi all. Newbie to Gamecube's so be gentle with me!

I've recently purchased a Gamecube that has Qoob fitted. i also have a couple of back-up games that came with it but I was wondering how I go about making back-ups myself?

I've read alot of stuff on various forums and it's all baffling!

Some say you can, some say it's virtually impossible, some say you need a broadband adapter etc etc.

Can anyone put it into Laymans terms for me please! My kids have already destroyed 1 game, forcing me to buy it again, and I don't want to lose anymore!

    Any help is greatly appreciated

I use a qoob Pro myself, and this is how it's done using the built in ripping capabilities. Keep in mind, that you'll need a BBA and know how to connect it to your PC via ethernet cables.

First, make sure you have the latest BIOS installed on your qoob. Should be 1.3c for both qoob Pro and SX.

Boot up to the main menu with the game inserted. Hit B so you'll stay at the menu and not boot the game.

Then, go to http://192.168.1.32/DVD using your web browser. This should bring up a download prompt, and you should be able to save the game as an image file (iso) to your hard drive. It won't automatically save with an extension, so save as game_name.iso so you'll know what it is.

And that's basically it. Just don't use Firefox, as it tends to corrupt/cancel the transfer. Use IE or Opera for best results. Provided everything's connected properly, you should be able to get 550+ Kbits/sec transfer speeds.

Forgot to mention this. If the iso file isn't exactly 1,456,836,608 bytes, then something went wrong and you'll have to do it again.

    Thanx for the brilliant reply.

I just have a few questions, if you don't mind answering them.

    1. How do I check the BIOS? If it's not up-to-date, how do I go about upgrading it?

    2. Is it just a standard Ethernet cable I need to connect it to my PC or do i need a cross-over cable (xover cable)?

    3. How do I boot up to the main menu? Is this the QOOB menu or the actual game menu?

    4. If the gamecube reads discs from the outside in and my dvd-writer will burn the game from the inside out, how does the Gamecube read it without errors? Or is this where the Qoob chip takes over?

    5. What software do I use to create the ISO? Will DVD-Decrytper be OK to use?

    Thanx again for replying

    1. Whenever you boot up, it should display the qoob screen. The BIOS version is listed on the REV section. If it says anything other than 1.3c at the end (such as 1.0) then you should update.

    2. With an SX, you'll have to flash via DVD-R. With a qoob Pro, it can either be flashed via USB or DVD-R. You can tell what version you have by looking at Device.

    3. Just hit B while booting the GameCube and it should bring up the main menu. You can also access your chip's settings from here as well and choose to boot using the original GameCube BIOS if you like.

    4. GameCube iso files take care of that, so don't worry about it. Just burn using either Nero or ImgBurn and you'll be fine.

    5. The qoob will stream it as an iso, so you all you have to do is burn the game once it's transferred to your PC. PC drives can't read original GC games, so you'll have to use the GC to get the game image onto your PC. If it's a copied game that you're trying to make another copy of though, you can use Nero to create a working disc image using the PC.

Thanx once again for the advice.

Can you use a normal GC to stream the game to the PC or does it have to be modded first before you can create the ISO on the PC?

Do I need a crossover cable or just a standard Ethernet cable to connect it to the PC?

    Soz for all the questions!

    Cheers matey!

It has to be modded and have a BBA plugged into it. Since you have a Qoob, you already have a modded GameCube.

Direct to PC requires a cross over cable. If you use a router/switch/hub, then you can use straight through ethernet cables.

    I've come across a problem.

I've bought a new GC Broadband Adapter and plugged it in. I've also bought a new Cross-over network cable and already have a std network cable.

When I type in the Internet Explorer web browser the address http://192.168.1.32/dvd nothing happens.

Is there anything I am doing wrong?

I'm using Qoob 1.3c and have pressed the B button when the original game has been loading, and the Qoob Main Menu has appeared with 2 choices. Either BOOT or CONFIGURATION.

It's at this point that I have typed in the http web address but to no avail.

I'm using a D-Link Wireless Router via a Telewest Cable Modem. I have tried both network cables in the router and the computer directly but all I get is the page coming up thats says Cannot find Server.

Is there anything else I should be doing?

Do I need to setup a new network connection to the GC via Windows XP Home?

My Qoob is the SX version

Not sure if this is the problem you're having, but DVD has to be capitalized or else it won't work.

    http://192.168.1.32/DVD

Connect the GC to your router using a straight through ethernet cable and enter that exact address in your browser.

    Thanx for your reply.

I hadn't been typing DVD in capitals but I'm still not having any luck with getting it to connect to my PC.

I'm not sure if it's my broadband adaptor although when plugged directly into my PC it does state that there is a connection but that it won't work. I've tried renewing the IP address usign the Xp prompt but still no joy.

I'm wondering if I should disconnect my current network connection, switch of my PC and restart it with it just connected to the GC? Do you think that might work?

I've just ordered Phantasy Star online so that I can connect my cable modem to the GC and see if i can access the online play mode using the BBA that way. if that fails then I'd assum that either the BBA is faulty or that the Qoob SX isn't setup correctly.

Are there any menus within the Qoob main menu that I can check the configurations, activate the BBA that way?

Sorry for all the questions but I feel like a failure at the min as I'm an expert at the PS2 but this thing is beating me all hands up! lol

I've never had to set-up a network connection at all. Just plugged everything in and I was ready to go.

Try connecting all the cables prior to booting the GC, as that could make a difference. There aren't any menus about the BBA, and usually I just leave it on the boot/config menu when I'm backing up games.

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but your PC's LAN IP address might have to be 192.168.1.100

I know it made a difference with GCOM and GCoS, but I don't remember if it affected Qoob chips or not.

    Sure do.

First, check what your current IP is by going on Run, typing in cmd and hitting enter. They type in ipconfig/all and you should see all your LAN info. If your PC is already 192.168.1.100 then you don't need to change anything. If it isn't, this is how you can change it. Take note of the mask, gateway, and DNS settings, since you'll be reusing those.

    Control Panel > Network Connections

Right click "Local Area Connection" and go on properties. Then select "Internet Protocal" and click the "Properties" button.

This should bring up a window that you lets you change everything to static settings. Use all the old settings, but change the IP to 192.168.1.100 and you should be fine. Also, if you have any other computers on your home network, I suggest making all of them use static IPs since you could end up having IP conflicts if you don't. Just use different IPs for each PC, and you should be fine. Static IPs are helpful since you can also port forward if you like.

If you know how to port forward, the GC uses port 4000 as I recall, so you can use that to increase transfer speeds a bit.

You my friend are a genius!

It was the IP address that was causing the conflict. Only thing is, when I change it I cannot access the internet via my D-Link 524 Wireless Router unless I change the settings back.

No worries on this one as I can live with changing the address everytime I wanna make a backup.

One thing I'd like to note. When I was transferring the game to my PC the file size came up as 1.35gb, not the 1.44444445gb (or something like that!) that was stated as a requirement to backup the game sucessfully. However, I used Nero and backed the game up and it works fine. Not sure if this is something relating to the Animaniacs game or not but thought I'd like mention it just incase!

Cheers again for your help, absolutely priceless
