Quality issue - HC the issue?

    i ripped a dvd at with dvdfab6 at dvd9 quality which still only comes up to 5.25gb (a tv show disc with only a few episodes).

    encoded with rebuilder/HC mode, cut out all audio except english. trimmed to 4.33gb.

    burned with imgburn. the result is such grainy quality that even the letterboxing is speckled and pixelated. what could have gone wrong here?
