Anyone else here notice a decline in quality of Sony Dvd+r TY's? I'm not talking about the new crappy Sony D21's either. THe last couple 50 packs I bought didn't give me consistent Quality Score's of 99 and 98 like they used to. Instead I got 96's and 97's with an occasional score even lower than that. The last time I got results like this with TY was when I bought the "Value Line" Ty's from Supermediastore.com. I still have some of "Premium" TY's I got from the same website and they give me QS's of 99 like always. So I know it's not my burner. Maybe I was just unlucky and got some lesser quality TY discs, but I have another theory. I think Sony started selling the "value line" TY's instead of the "premium" ones for a short while. Then they decided to scrap that and save themselves even more money by making those crappy d21's. This theory is based on nothing factual. Just a hunch since I bought my last two packages of Sony Dvd+'r from Walmart and Staples, two different stores. I just sucks I'll now have to buy all my dvd media online since my burners don't like Verbatim as much as they should. They only play well with "Premium" TY's.

Sony has always had the d series.

-4x: Sony04D1-made in taiwan and austria
-1x-8x: Sony08D1- Made in taiwan and japan
    +1x-8x: SonyD11-made in taiwan
+1x-16x: SonyD21-made in taiwan and japan.

I don't believe they have anything to do with sony making taiyo yuden that I know of?

Now taiyo yuden makes some for sony:

    dash 1x-8x- Ty-g02
    dash 1x-16x- Ty-go3
    Plus 1x-8x- Yuden000-T02
Plus 1x-16x- I heard rumors, but none of these are nearby: Yudenooo-T02

Sony is notorious for using the exact same MID codes from different countries. I've seen it on the dash 4x/dash 1x-8x/and now on the plus 1x-16x.

2 different countries using the SonyD21 MID code. I've used both the japanese and taiwanese. These are nothing like the older sony Yuden000-T02. Still decent, but not ty quality.

Rumor has it that some of the japanese spindles of +1x-16x are being made by taiyo yuden: Yuden000-T03. These should be a lot better than the sonyD21.

96 and 97 isn't too bad. My scans were in the same range,so I burn these SonyD21 at 4x to get a little improvement.

    No playback issues.

I compare these exactly the way SonyD11 +1x-8x compares to the Yuden000-T02. Those D11's were decent, but nothing like the yudens. I suspect the same for the 1x-16x speed sony media whenever I encounter those juicy Yuden000-T03's.

Why is there any quality difference between the DVD-R, DVD+R sony coded ones, and the TY coded ones they all use the same dye, to the eye there exactly the same from what I can see.

So are the dyes different and just the same color or what. Storm~
