Hello everyone I have a couple of questions actually. When I convert using this program the result is stored in a convertxtodvd file as a vob file. Can I convert a number of files at different times to this folder and then burn all of them on to one single dvd. According to vso there must be an ifo file created after converting the files in order to be able to create a dvd. Does each vob file need an iso file or do all the converted vob files use the one iso file? Just a little confusing for me but if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
Just another question along the same lines. When I try to burn a file to DVD using convertxtodvd it appears to only allow me to burn 1 dvd file to 1 dvd. Is there a way to burn several small dvd files, which were converted by this program, to 1 dvd. I really want to do it with convertxtodvd. I know other burning programs can do it.
Hello, If you want to burn multiple converted files to a dvd with convertxtodvd, they have to have been converted in the same session. (Open convertxtodvd, add all the files you want to convert and burn) ConvertxtoDVD will automatically create a menu for you as well. Have you taken a peak at http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_convertxtodvd_guide.cfm ?
Thanks very much for the feedback. I have another question if you can possibly help me with it. I converted a number of files in one session tonight. After conversion the dvd was apparently too big and the program asked for a dual layer DVD media, which I do not have so I had to stop the burn. I then removed a couple of titles to reduce the size and tried again. This time it burned the disk but was very patchy and froze several times on playback. My question is do all the ifo files have to be next to its corresponding vob file or does convertxtodvd figure out which ifo belongs with each vob file. (All ifo files and vob files are in the same folder, just not next to each other)
Yes they are associated, but I don't know how that is going to help you. Only the files converted in one session can be burnt to dvd and be recognized. When you say "I then removed a couple of titles to reduce the size and tried again." does that mean you started all over again, adding the files you wanted to convert to go through the whole conversion process again? Here are a couple of other tips: to get more room on your dvd or create more space for the converted files, un check the option "add original files to DVD (if possible)" under settings/burning. And also you might want to play with the encoding options (under settings) quality standard. High quality will take up more space on your DVD. About your disk, does it read fine on your computer? or on your computer was it "patchy" and does it freeze there , or only on you living room dvd player? I hope this info helps.
Thanks again for your feedback What I did was remove a couple of converted files from the folder where convertxtodvd had stored all the converted files. I then attempted to burn the remaining files on to a disc. I did not start all over again. However you stated that converted files have to be burned in the same session as conversion. That is probably why I got the result that I did. Now I understand. I did have the settings the way you had mentioned. The disc has the same result when I play back in my computer. So from what I understand from you is that you cannot convert files with convertxtodvd on to your hard drive and then burn them later. Let me ask this. Is it possible to convert files on to the hard drive with convertxtodvd then burn them using another program like Nero? It was frustrating to convert all the files and find I could not burn them as the disc was too big. Do you have any idea roughly about how much space is added on to the disc when you burn it. Then I can know how much space I have for my files. Thank you again for the responses.
Hello, Are you using the latest version, 2.0.9? You can simply convert your files, and not burn afterwards-----this is an option under "Settings/Burning" "Burn result to DVD". When you are ready to burn the session you might have converted the previous day, just open ConvertXtoDVD go to "Action" and Burn DVD. Here you will find what you want to burn---notice that the name of the folder is the name of the first file converted in that session (when I say session, I mean the group of files you might have converted-as often more than one file is converted, but the file name of these converted files, it the name of the first file of this session). You can of course burn with another application, if you prefer, but in my opinion there is no reason the burning engine is pretty darn reliable. If you do not check this box then your files will be stored onto your hard drive, to find out where go to "Settings/General" "Working Folder". So what I mean to say is that if you convert 6 files all at once (in one session) you cannot later on just burn 3 of these converted files. You have to burn them as a set of 6. If the 6 are too big to burn onto a DVD then you have to go throught the conversion process again but with less files. Do note that in the log file you are given some information on the file(s) size: this is an old version/old log file: 24/02/2006 10:00:39 information [bold]Project size 4,3 Gb. Is this more clear? Hope it helps
Thank you very much for all the info. It was a massive help. It certainly cleared things up for me. Shame that I had to delete all the converted files from the previous session. Funny though. I thought the total playing time was only 2 1/2 hours. When you add a file to the project and a time comes up to the right of the filke name, is that the playing time of that file or the time it takes for that file to be converted?
hello! you can actually set up convertXtodvd to encode the avi(s) so they fit onto a dvd-5 settings->encoding->target size->custom!!,say 4350 mb? cheers!!
Thank you very much I will try that. If I set it up for custom size will that be the size after conversion or before? One of the problems I have with convertxtodvd is it will often read a file as 1 min in length whereas it really is much longer, say 30 min.
hello, the size will be what it will be afterwards,(well the max size),it may well be under that, depending on what you are doing cheers!
