I own several movies in which are on duel layer dvds. I'd plan to backup each movie to two blank 4.7 gig blank dvds. Question is if I were to divide the DVD-9 between two blank dvds I would then assume that the MAIN MENU would be located on Disk 1. If this were the case I would think it's not possible to access anything located on Disc 2 from the main menu. Am I correct on this?
The following information is based upon my experience with DVD Fab. I am unfamiliar with any other programs that may split one DVD-9 onto two blank 4.7 DVDs. To answer your question, you are correct. You would not be able to access anything on Disc 2 from the main menu. However, this is not be a problem because the only thing on disc 2 is the 2nd part of the movie. The way DVD Fab works is it will put the menus, all of the special features and the 1st part of the movie on Disc 1. When you're done with Disc 1, you simply insert Disc 2 to continue the movie where Disc 1 left off. I hope this helps.
I've always used a program called IFO Edit. You open the main movie files with ifo edit, and it splits the files in half and makes a menu for each. You can control what size you want each to be. Then, after you have part1 and part2 in separate folders, you simply copy and paste the files of whatever extras you want. This allows you to have the menu and extras on both dvds if you choose to and if you have enough room. To be honest, though, I prefer to split the movie, put the extras on the first dvd, and strip the menu from the second dvd in DVD Shrink Reauthoring so that when I stick in the second dvd, the movie starts playing exactly where it left off. This way I don't have to scroll through all of the menus to start the movie back up. For this reason, I think I'm going to try DVD Fab. I hope this helped... I tried to summarize what each program does to give you an idea of what the result will be. Let me know if you're confused at all. Also, what would be your ideal result? Do you want a menu and extras on both dvds? Or do you want the movie on one dvd (with a menu) and the extras on another dvd (with a menu) (this is possible using DVD Shrink).
