seeing as how the tvs used now aren't going to work in the near future I'm thinking of buying a hdtv. My problem is there's so many out there and I don't know one from another, and don't want to spend alot of money and come to find out that the one I bought sucks.when buying, what am I supposed to look for? btw I have alot of things to connect to one, if that any help. Hope this is the right forum to post. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Well, if you have a lot of things to connect, you definitely want a lot of inputs (or are you planning on using a HT receiver?). 1080p is the going resolution, although some would argue 720p is better, all of the mewer sets will display and ACCEPT 1080p (some older sets, as recently as earlier this year, will only accept 1080i and upconvert it to display 1080p). You will want a set with at least one HDMI input (2 or 3 would be better). Usually you will get 2 or 3 component inputs and a couple of composite inputs standard. Size is a big issue. How big should you go? Although there are a lot of size charts out there it is a personal preference. I have heard people say that they wish they had bought a bigger set but never a smaller one. For an explanation about different types of sets you can check this thread:

Great articles here about how to choose sets and HDTV in general:

Thanks alot for the info chiknlitl, that was a big help. now one more question. I bought a dvd recorder and a vcr about a year ago. I know vcr's are almost history but I had to have one to convert vhs to dvd. What I want to know is will I have to get another dvd recorder/ player if I get a hdtv. that would suck big time. Thanks again.

I would assume the DVD player has at least composite outputs, probably component outs as well. You should not need to get a new player unless you want upconversion or HD DVD/Blue Ray, in which case the new set would be compatible as well. Most HDTV's have component inputs and even RF inputs (coaxial cable).
