Question about Home theater projector

Hello,
I'm sorry if this thread is in the wrong section. I couldn't find anything exclusively dedicated to projectors.
Anyway, recently I bought a sound system for my home theater, so the next step is to get a projector.
I am planning on plugging it to a DVD player. I do not have a blu Ray player or anything HD. At least not for now.
I am also going to put in it in my basement, where there’s barely any light. So hopefully these two factors will help to find something within my budget.
My question is: what’s your recommendation? I am planning on expending between 500 and 800 bucks. I have never had a projector before and I am truly clueless about what things to keep in mind and what to look for. By the way, I do not have any preference brand wise.
So, if there are any good deals out there, or any websites with a decent selection, please let me know. Thanks a lot!!!
By the way, I am also going to need to buy a screen for it. Do you have any feedback on that front as well? Thanks again.
