Hi, I am going to buy a mod case and i saw this problem when i compared a DVD-r with a Gamecube Optical Disk.
What I'm asking is if the gamecube's laser track, which is shorter than any common laser, is enough to read DVD-r. I have measured the laser track and i saw that the laser cannot read the border of the DVD-rs, is that true?

    Thanks

Well why would you need your GC to read the whole DVD-R, You can burn a game on a normal DVD-R (1.4gb) and It can be read perfectly by the GC, although Im not sure if the GC can read pass the 1.4Gb track, although I dont think the GC is designed to read the Borders of the DVD-R but it has been proven that games written to DVD-R can be perfectly read by the GC.

The GameCube's laser can only read out to the edge of a mini-DVD. The advantage of having a full case mod is simply so you can use regular DVDs, as they are far cheaper than mini-DVDs. If you only burn up to 1.4GB or so on the DVD it will work, since it's burned from the inside to the outside, so the laser will be able to read the first 1.4GB (approximately) on the disc.
