    Hi,

I always heard that HD ready meant you need to buy a HD tuner (or hook it up to something that has one built in. The HD ready was a marketing slogan to confuse the public about an older generation of tvs, that in order to save costs, and be more price competitive, skimped out on the digital HD tuner. Also it enabled the newer HD tuner built in tvs to command a higher price.

If you're only looking to watch over the air (free) tv then you would need to get an HD tuner.... If you get cable or satellite, then if you get an HD package from your provider, your TV will be fine as it is..

HD Ready means that it is capable of displaying an HD quality picture.. If the signal coming into it (cable or satellite) is already HD, then that is what you will be able to see with no other equipment other than your cable or satellite box.

For the U.S. market Samsung makes a HD receiver DTB-H260F that has ATSC, and QAM receivers for OTA signals, and cable tv clear QAM channels (usually the local channels). I don't know if this is available for other markets.
Sony also has a recordable DVD/VCR combo RDR-VXD655 with built in receivers (NTSC/ATSC/QAM). Again this is for the U.S. market.
