Ok...i'm looking to get the Benq DW1640 off of zipzoomfly.com and a Plextor PW-716a off eBay.com. The Benq drive is shown on zipzoom as being a bare drive and the Plextor is listed as OEM. My question is since these drives don't come with all the software as the retail versions is there anything i am missing out on that i can't get off of the manufacture websites?

I ask because i don't wanna buy the OEM version unless i'm sure i can download everything i need that would have come normally in the retail verion. Also to those that have knowledge of theses two drives what software or firmware do you recommend as must have?

One other question. Why does all of the pics of OEM versions of the Benq burner not have the Benq name on the front of them? Are the retail ones the only ones with the Benq on front of the drive?

Bundled software that comes with retail boxed version of DVD drives is by and large NOT worth paying anything extra. It is either a program so basic that it doesn't suit your needs or a "lite" version of a decent program that you'll have to upgrade anyway!

Ditto what Stan said. The OEM drives aren't branded (no logo or name) because they are sold in bulk to computer manufacturers to put in their PC cases, and they are often rebranded by another company and sold under their brand. (For example, the Sony DRU 800A is actually a LiteOn SOHW 1693S)
