Question about saves between cards.

In other words if I buy a new card for my DS and it isn't the same brand. Can I copy the games and saves from one sd card to another and expect them to work on/with the new card?

I have a R4 and would like to get an M3DS Real (I think) for the added GBA compatibility on the same card. The reason as you can expect, is I don't want to start every game over again.
