After being a long-time reader on this forum (first-time poster) I've decided to order some Taiyo Yuden media. I got some of these last week when they were on sale: Http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-matte-spindles-100.html Since I only burn at 2.4x to avoid getting any errors on my discs, I figured the 4x would be fine. Just two questions: 1) Are these going to be good quality for Taiyo Yuden? I know there are codes to look at on each discs, but I'm not sure how to determine the codes on the discs. I usually have used Maxell +R in the past. 2) Will I tell any difference using -R rather than +R. I've got a 16X IO Magic Dual Layer Burner. Thanks in advance for your replies.
1. YES, i have many of those 4x TYGO1s...you should be just fine. 2. there should be no real difference, i use dvd+r now because my drive has the ability to booktype dvd+r to dvd-rom, but other than that small option, dvd-r is very compatible w/ stand alone dvd players~
You are using quality media with those ty's. Supermedia store is also a highly recommended site to buy from. Iomega has different manufacturers for those burners. I have 2. My first one was built by BENQ 1620. My second one, bought 3 months later, was built by EMPA and it is still in the box! That benq will burn anything you throw in it and plays on a boat load of standalones,pc drives, and ps2's.It highly favors the plus format and booktyped them to dvd-rom.Dash format:I have a few of my friends and family players that won't recognize those backups. That EMPA IO totally sucked.I had to update the firmware right out of the box and compatability sucked. After trying my backups on my stand alones/dvd recorder/and pc drives-It favored the dash format.Even booktyping them didn't help the compatability. Which IO Magic 16x burner do you have? The benq I/O's will say 1620 in nero infotool. The Empa's will have a generic "ide dvd-rw" or something like that. Both those I/O's were only $40 and bought at the same store,3 months apart. The maxell plus media is very good.Especially the japanese ones in the +8x. 4x is par for the majority of us.
How do I check my drive to see which type it is? Also, how do you get the media code off of a disc? I've got NERO 6 Ultra Edition, I'm pretty sure you can check both using it. Thanks in advance. boz
Yo boz, Here's a link to a free tool for mfg ID codes: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm Here's another: http://www.dvdinfopro.com Both are free, dvdinfopro has a disc scan tool to check for errors on your backups. Dvd decrypter will tell you the codes. To find your burner model using nero,I just have oem 6.0.0.21b: Nero/Nero tool kit/Nero Infotool Click on drive tab,you may have to scroll if you have 2 drives like mine. Mine says: E:/lite-on sohd-167-t and f:/Benq dvd dw1620 Dvd shrink also tells you your burner model during the backup process. Some drives will list a generic # making them more difficult to identify, like my last I/O magic.Dvdidentifier also tells you the model.
@abozich56, Taiyo Yuden [the FUJI & SONY 8X DVD+R "MIJ" is genuine TY as well) is the one and only shit you need to get. My 2 other top notch medias are Verbatim and Maxell.
Does anyone the max speed the Pioneer 109 can burn 4X+R TY's? I have only been burning the 8X TY's to date and they do 12X...
@ teflonmyk i never tried the 4x DVD+r TYs, but, i have MANY of the 4x dvd-r TYGO1s, i can burn them @8x on my pioneer, but, i don't usually over-burn (speed over the suggested manufacturers burn rate) on them. i just stick w/ @4x burning on my 4x TYGO1s and @8x on my 8x rated TYs in either format~ i guess there ARE some TYs i have not tried...never had the chance of using 4x dvd+r TYs...those are much harder to find, i guess the need wasn't there either as the 8x dvd+r are so readily available, i never needed the 4x ones
curiousity is a good thing...to WANT to know everything about a particular manufacturer/brand is a good thing that is how i look at TY, its a very fine company and i try to find out as much as i can before suggesting things here on AD~ most of the time it's from personal experience, other times other members have questions to make me dig deeper into a particular aspect~ either way, we all gain some insight into the situation~
Got my 4x -R Yuden's today, they code as TYG02 and will burn at 8X. Anyone know anything about the TYG02 code and how good they seem to be.
if your TYs are GENUINE...TYGO2 is NOT coding for 4x media, it is for 8x Taiyo Yuden dvd-r format media~ you apparently got "lucky" from supermediastore as others in the past have reported receiving 8x TYs for the price of the 4x TYGO1s those are genuine TYs and are VERY good media~ consider yourself lucky as i have ordered thousands of 4x dvd-r TYs and NEVER received the 8x TYGO2s instead good luck...you got the good stuff~ happy burning~
Have there ever been reports of Supermediastore shipping non-geniune Taiyo Yudens? If not, I did get lucky because they do code TYG02.
so far, i have ordered 90% of my media from supermediastore.com, i have yet to hear of them selling FAKE TYs or any other brand for that matter...they are a very reputable online retailer...this is based not only on MY opinion of them, but many many others on here. you got lucky...enjoy and happy burning~ TYG02s are harder to come by these days if purchasing locally, but when ordering from supermediastore...you got good 8x dvd-r media for the price of 4x...wish i were that lucky
That makes me wanna try my luck!!! On an "off" note: Guys check out the last link in my sig (interesting)...
I'll probably order some more if they go on sale again soon. When I got them they were like 32 total with shipping.
they have free shipping sales/deals frequently, if you don't need them RIGHT AWAY, then waiting a little while should be to your best interest~
