I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade your xbox hard drive (on a soft modded xbox) without using a PC to do the formatting. Im getting a 300 gig hard drive, and i would like to install it without opening up my PC. I am using XBMC as my dashboard but i still have the Evolution X dashboard as an application, so i could easily make it my primary dashboard if needed. Like i said i would like to avoid opening up my PC, So if anyone could give me a bit of help, i would be greatful.

AHHHHHHHHHH - I have looked everywhere. Asked Everyone. No one I know has a tower PC I can rip apart to format my WD 320 GB drive.

I am at the point I would pay someone to do this for me. I am in Culver City California. If there are any local people that want to make a couple bucks, or trade something ( I have an extra xbox wwith a broken dvd drive)... PLEASE reply. PLEASE?

All I want to do is rip my games (the ones I own) from DVD to an internal HDD so my kids stop thrashing them.

    PLEASE....

Haha - I know I'm not ripping it apart. The only PC I have access to is at work and the IT guy laughed his A** off when I asked him I could rip into that one :)

I have a PC laptop at home, any way to use that? I have Mac's a plenty, any way to use those?

My xbox is running XBMC now and I love it. It is softmodded though, so I need PC to do the HDD upgrade.

I have one last question, how can you tell if a HDD is lockable?

In jonbtrini Upgrading HD on Softmodded Xbox Tutorial at the end he says "Also, if your HD is OVER 137 gigs, you'll need to format the remaining space with UnleashX for it to be available once you're finished the upgrade." Why do you need unleashX? And where can you get unleashX?

Hey DarkTekno, Culver City is near Santa Monica. Close to LAX. I think I have it figured out. I made the .iso last night. Need to burn it today. Then tomorrow I am going to show up to work early, shut my door, and do it on my corprate PC... hahah. What fun is all this hacking if we don't break a few rules :)

Hey guys. I got my 320 GB Western Digital drive formatted using this guide and everythign worked great. Super easy. Then when I pput it in the xbox It booted the the regular xbox dash. I redid my softmod, but in doing to I somehow lost my "extra" space above 132 GB (or whatever that number is) any advice inn getting it back?

Sorry - I was in a hurry when I typed the first message. I used xboxhdm ( or whatever it's called ) and it worked great. When it was done, I put the HDD in my xbox and booted. To my surprise it booted into the old original xbox screens. I had made full copies of my c and e drives on the xbhdm disk, so not sure why I ended up like this.

I put in mech and ran the game save "run linux" - this took me to my softmod, but did not give me the install options. After banging my head against the wall for a while I did a remove softmod option, and just started over. Prior to doing this I could see my F drive was close to 300 GB. When I reinstalled my softmod it asked me about about making a G and so on, I said yes. It then said something about a phantom C drive. When it was done I had lost 1/2 my drive. I have an F partion that is like 132 GB, but no G...

So, how do I get a G? I thought I read somewhere that I no longer needed a G and that F: can now be any size?

Any way after all this I simply replaced the C and E drives on my xbox with the C and E drives I had backed up to my PC. I rebooted and I am back to full XBMC BLING BLING!!! But I only have half my drive.. YIKES.

Anyone out there point me to a thread or anything that can help me get back the rest? I don't mind starting over if that's what I need to do.
