Before I buy a new hard drive, wanted to ask this since so many seem to be having problems. My computer is not so new but I have no problems with this so far. Running Windows XP Pro on an AMD ATHLON 1000MHZ 512mb of ram. I use 3 hard drives at the moment which are full 1 15 gig for my operating system and 2 30 gigs for storage. Want to eliminate the 2 30's for storage and move to a large hard drive like 160 gig Western Digital. Just wondering if I will have any problems or if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks
Hey Depending on ur mobo, as long as it suppose ATA100, it will support the 160G Western Digital HDD. So you should have no problems at all if it does support it. Regards CoZZa
Actually it depends on if your bios supports 48 bit LBA to get past the 137g ATA barrier. Windows XP also needs to be at Service Pack 1 to fully use a drive larger than 137g. For a long read on hard drive size barriers see: http://www.dewassoc.com/kbase/hard_drives/hard_drive_size_barriers.htm
