    Hey, guys, first post.
    Anywho, here's my quandry?
Trying to backup my DVD's to DVDs.
I have used DVD Decryptor to remove the CSS prot, used Alcohol 120% to mount the DVD image, Used Nero Recode w/my Ultra Edition 6 to recompress it. After recompressing, I know the Image on my hard drive will play(I have tested it), but I can't burn from my recode-It won't let me, I can only target something on the hard drive-it won't let me target my cd-burner drive, even when there is a bland DVD+R in it. Also, I get the file down to 4.7 gig, then later in Nero Burn rom, it says the file is way less than 4.7 gig.
So I burn the recompressed image to hard drive again, test it w/ Nero Showtime, and it always works flawlesslty.
I burn the image to DVD+R in Nero Cd Rom burn, selecting "closed disc project" and make sure I hit "DVD-Video" The Disc will play in my DVD drive on my computer, but not in my yamaha theater in a box DVD player (Yamaha S100). My burner is an HP dvd 300N. I can't burn using the "DVD-Rom(UDF)" because my media says it must be burn @4xs, and this option in Nero says it only burns at 2x. AHHHHHHHH

    Any help appreciated.
Sorry for the long post, I just bought the computer(my first one ever) and I am trying to learn asap.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Cobravenm welcome.

That is a lot of work you have going on there. Ok, first let me get this right...decryptor then Alcohol, then recode, then reburn to hard drive, then burn with Nero? How long does that take? Then once all that is done you can't play it on you set-top dvd player? Is that all correct?

Ok, first I will say that what you are doing looks like it is really really complicated and time consuming. I would recommend going with an easier faster manner. I would download Dvd shrink from here
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
and use this to rip your dvds with. Here is a guide to show you how it works
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm
You already have Nero 6 and Dvd Decryptor so that pretty much takes care of it. Much easier to deal with.

As far as the discs not working in your set top player, that may be your media. Take a look here to see if what you are using will be compatible with what you have.

Also take a look here to find what media will work right with your burner

Good quality media is very important and can mean the difference between a dvd back-up and a migraine headache.

They show one model up the DVR-s120 and one below the DVR-S80, looking at both of those I would assume that yours will play DVD+R and DVD-R.
Since the Hp burner isn't shown there unfortunately you can't guess at what will work right with it. I would recommend going out and getting a few DVD+RW and using those until you get the rip/burn process down with out any kinks.

    Cobravenm,

To answer you question how to burn your image. Either use Nero and burn image, or you can use DVD Decrypter. Decrypter is a ripper and a burner, but will only burn ISO Images :)

How do you burn from DVD Decryptor? I can only write to the hard drive. I has a selection to burn to the DVD drive (w/ a blank disc in it of course) and then it says I have to write to a "recognizable source." By the way, I have to say thanks for all the help I wasn't expecting to get from you guys. This is a great forum(great people, moreover)

I take that back, I can burn from decryptor, but the file is too big. I can't burn from Nero Recoder, it won't let me burn to a drive.

Decrypter will only burn ISO files. To do this open decrypter, click mode, select ISO Write W.

Yeah, that will work, but the file is too big to burn w/out cutting some of it off or it skipping when it plays

Then, when I just tried to burn w/the DVD-R it said DVD-video files rellocation failed. IN Nero, there are two columns on the left. I dragged the whole file to be burned and dropped in on the Video TS file. What's up w/this?

If you're using Nero recode to compress then why not use it to burn. All you need to do is rip with Decrypter, open the file with Nero recode, and it should take you straight through file the compression and on to the burn.

IN nero recompress, It will not let me burn to my DVD writing Drive. When I try to do this, It just says that I must write it to a recognizeable source, even though I have a blank compatible DVD in the drive.

    Cobravenm,

Let's start fresh. You've got DVD Decrypter, Nero, and Alcohol 120. Don't have Alcohol 120 so I'll skip that. But you need to get DVD Shrink (this will compress). And since you have Nero Recode 2 get DVD43(free) or AnyDVD($39)

Also here is a great thread explaining a DVD-9 to DVD-5
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/89949

There are many was to backup:
    Using Shrink w/ Decrypter
    1) Open Shrink, open disk
    2) Click "backup!"
    3) Change target destination to "ISO Image File", and check box to Launch DVD Decrypter
    4) Click ok

    Using Shrink w/ Nero
    1) Open Shrink, click edit, then preferences
    2) Under File I/O tab, check box to Enable burning with Nero, click ok
    3) Open Disc, change target destination to you burner
    4) Click ok

You can also use DVD43 or AnyDVD with Recode 2.

DVD43 will not run on my computer because it says I need a "Patin Coufin" installed or running before anything else. I have installed it 3 times and restarted and have failed to be able to run it.

Then you are looking for answers to a different question because Nero does burn processed files from recode. What is the make an model of your burner? You can find most of that information by opening first Nero, Nero toolkit, and then Nero Info Tool. Once it's open at the top your drive make and model should be listed. More importantly look below for the supported read and the supported write features. If you look at them closely you will note that those that are checked are features that your burner supports.

Follow the link below and print a copy of this guide. This is the easiest to learn guide I've yet seen it is literally a walk-through.

All you'll need to do now is download a copy of DVD shrink which you can get here, and then follow the guide step by step and you'll get your backup.
