Hey guys i have a question on using 3 ide hard drives. You see I was planning on using a WD 120 gb hard drive for my main and using the onboard ide on my mobo of course. And i was planning on using a Ultra/Ata 133/100 Channel Controller so I can use extra ide devices. I was planning in using two Seagate Baraccuda 160gb hard drives. Now my question is when i set my primary hard drive as master and the other two hard drives thats connected to the controller be master/slave?? thanks
yes, PCI controller cards follow the same master/slave setup as onboard IDE channels. And unless you have more than one optical drive (DVDROM/RW) on your computer, you can run all three HDs off your mobo, as each IDE channel supports two drives.
hey dj, is it better to run on seperate ide? as i have 2 optical dives,i have then both going to there own ide connection, cause my hard drive connects to sata 2.the dvdroms each are set to primary master.am i screwing something up by doing that?just wondering thanks in advance
hey ddp,its better to install the way i did.installed hard drive, install windows,no partition, full disk ntfs[is that the right letters?win xp pro]mine runs fine,i was wondering
they are probably fine the way they are. I run my drives on opposite channels. I have one optical drive and one hard drive per channel. The only reason I have that is because I copy CDs on the fly, and it is much more efficient to have the optical drives on different channels, as it copies much quicker. But other than that it shouldn't make that much of a difference.
