I have just about all the parts I need for my new build. I have yet to get the monitor but that will come soon. I understand the lower the number in response time the better. But in my research someone at another forum mentioned that the contrast ratio is important, too, and that 800:1 is what is needed. The problem for me is that 800:1 LCD monitors take me almost $100 over my budget.

I want this new rig to play games, video editing, et. al., and regular office work. Is the 800:1 ratio, though very nice to have, really necessary? What is a good to very good contrast ratio?

This person also said to look for 8-bit panels instead of 6-bit panels, but in my search for this info. by manufacture specs. I couldn't find it.

    Thanks for your help.

its not essential to have all of that to play games but it will give you better quality overall.
