I was asked to make a back up copy of a PC/DVD gave for a friend that doesn't have a DVD burner but wanted a copy before the orginal got to scratched to use.

I made the back up for him and even tested it on my computer, I installed the back up to try it out on my pc and it worked but when my friend tried to use it on his pc he found he could not use the back up.

he uninstalled the game and tried installing the back up and it installed but it would not play, I would like to know if there is there any reason for it to install but not play?

Basically, if you have software like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120 on your pc, everytime you stick a copied game into your drive the program(s) (Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120) will imitate the the copy protection found on it and therefore trick the game/pc into thinking that you are playing with the real disc.

So if your friend can play with the original but not the copy then this is probably the problem. If your friend can't play with either the original or the copy I would say either his CD/DVD drive is dying or possibly the game uses the StarForce copyprotection.
