I'm a newbie (minimal PC knowledge) I've bought a Samsung DVD multiplayer, the invoice says SHM522CBSBN and the seller says the model is TS-H552U/BSBN. I've tried copying dvd's using nero, although it goes through the process, it won't play back on pc or dvd player. I've followed other advice and used dvd decryptor and dvd shrink but when it comes to burning, it says medium not ready. I'm using sony DVD+R disks. Someone suggested that I may have been sold a CD writer and DVD player but that it can't write DVD's. I don't know if this is the case. The front of case says DVD Multiplayer RW combo Compant Disk+Rewritable. Any advice / suggestions please? Thank you

    Hello.

It is a DVD writer based on the model number.

Does the device appear in the My Computer window?

Does it playback commercially pressed DVDs?

Since you said you tried Nero, post the NeroHistory log located in one of these paths depending on your version.

    Nero 6: C: > Program Files > Ahead > Nero > NeroHistory
    Nero 7: C: > Program Files > Nero > Nero7 > Core > NeroHistory

Be sure to delete your name and serial number before posting. Only post the last section that begins with a section header followed by the program serial number.

The problem could be the result of something simple like media incompatibility. But there could be other causes as well.

    ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======

I also used nero system info and it had all the different read options selected but when it came to write only the CD-R and CD-RW were selected. The DVD-R and DVD-RW were not selected and couldn't be changed. Does this mean that it is in fact only a dvd reader and not a writer. When I enquired with the seller they said that it is a dvd writer and maybe there was something wrong with it and I should bring it in for a check up. Thanks for your help.

    Hello Nerisha.

    [bold]Recorder: <TSSTcorp CDW/DVD SH-M522C>Version: TS06[/bold]

This is not a DVD burner. Nor is this the model you earlier stated you thought you had which was TS-H552. The latter is a DVD burner. The model you have is a CD burner and DVD reader. It should be able to read and play DVDs but not burn them. You should return this and get what you thought you were ordering, the DVD burner.

In the future do not install Nero InCD since it often causes problems. You can use the Nero 6 InCD Clean Tool to uninstall it:

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/InCD_Clean_Tool.html

Also for future reference, the best and most stable version of Nero 6 is 6.6.0.18 available here:

    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Hi there, thank you so much for your help. Initially when I called the dealers, the sales lady insisted that it was a writer. However now that I obviously sound like I know a little about this ,she's changed her story. What the invoice states and what I've got are not even the same thing so I will follow up on it. It's supposed to be a reputable company, our company even buys their equipment from them but they're claiming that it's an error on the sales person's part and that she'd have to rectify it. No apologies oferred! But thank you so much for the assitance, much appreciated.

You're welcome. I hope you get it straightened out. If not and you're located in the U.S., I would recommend Newegg at www.newegg.com. I also recommend either the BenQ 1650 or the NEC 3550 burners.

I'm in South Africa, I've been hearing a lot about BenQ online. Not sure how popular it is over here but if I can find it I'll get it. Thanks again.
