I'm new to the whole Gamecube modding scene. And i just have a few questions. I'm thinking of soft modding my gamecube with the max drive pro. My first question is can is there any way of backing up a gamecube game without using phantasy star online or is there anyway of backing up a gamecube game without a game cube broadband adapter? Is there any way to rip a gamecube game directly from a computer dvd drive? And is the gamecube drive sensative to cheap dvd-r's or dvd+r's or rw's like the some xbox dvd drives are? If you guys have any other information to help a noob like me please post that under this thread too.

Im almost postitve that the only way to make a backup of an Orignel game if using a softmod is by using the BBA. Now if you have a hardmod I think there is a way to backup a game without the BBA. But if it is a softmod im 100% sure you need the BBA.

Once you get the softmod installed and an operating system on it (GCOS, GCOM etc etc) then you can backup disc easy with them. You have to have the GC connected through the BBA and computer to rip the orignel game off using the GC drive.(You cannot put an orignal game into your computer DVD and copy it due to the protection you have to use the GC drive)

    But.....

Once you rip the orignal game with the GC drive and the backup made you dont have to rip it again with the GC. You can do a direct copy of the backup by just using the computer (I use Nero and just do a DVD Copy of it). Lets say your friend has backups of games you own. Instead of riping the game yourself you could make a copy of their backup to use. (Thats if you own the game yourself)

Also just like every DVD player or game system the quility of disc you use does matter. GC are sensitive to cheap media. Why would it be any diffrent for GC, Xbox, or PS2. Use good quility media. I use TY's (TYGO2) and works perfect.
