Hi Guys! I'm looking to copy my retail DVD's and have a few questions. First off, which program would be best if I were looking to make exact copies of my collection minus the encryptions and region code? I've used DVD Shrink and it's pretty much self explanatory. I do, however, have a few questions about DVD Decrypter. Below I've posted screen shots of my settings within DVD decrypter. http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1345/decryptercss8dx.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/8012/decrypterdevice6rs.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4307/decrypterfilemode3vl.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/851/decryptergeneral6ca.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/6902/decrypterio0wo.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4835/decrypterifomode9ib.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/8314/decrypterisoreadmode6ss.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/7324/decrypterisowritemode2ki.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/877/decrypterstreamprocessing8so.jpg Again, with my aim being to keep the DVD Images as retail as possible minus only the region code/encryptions.. do I have the right settings? This is assuming DVD Decrypter is the best program for me.. Is it? I've gone ahead and created a few images using those settings no problem but when I went to burn them.. lol.. I got this: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/2346/decrypterwriteerror9xj.jpg http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/2379/nero7burn8bh.jpg http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/3415/nero7discinfo3ck.jpg http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8876/nero7failedlog6dd.jpg http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6551/nero7info5av.jpg -Nero 7 Ultra Edition Retail Copy- DVD Decrypter Disc Info: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S BS0C (USB) Current Profile: DVD+R DL Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 4,173,824 Free Space: 8,547,991,552 bytes Free Time: 927:32:74 (MM:SS:FF) Physical Format Information (ADIP): Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01 Book Type: DVD+R DL Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,580,607 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,283,519 Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01 Book Type: DVD+R DL Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120mm Maximum Read Rate: Not Specified Number of Layers: 2 Track Path: Opposite Track Path (OTP) Linear Density: 0.293 um/bit Track Density: 0.74 um/track First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608 Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 16,580,607 Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 2,283,519 I browsed through some of the older threads and found out that others too have reported the same problem. They were using Memorex DVD+R DL as am I. lol Shame on me for thinking all media is created equal. Looking over the information it's probably safe to assume it's the media... right? I'm going out to buy a few packs of Verbatim tonight. I'm using an Iomega Super DVD Burner USB2.0 and it IS compatible with DVD+R DL at 4x Should I get it working.. do you recommend I burn through Nero or DVD Decrypter (or does it matter?) Couple other questions I have are: If I were to make a DVD Image using DVD Decrypter, generate an MD5 value for the image, burn it using dvd decrypter/nero, create a DVD image off the burned disc using Decrypter (using the same settings) and generate another MD5 for the new image.. would they match? lol Yeah, it's a mouthful I've seen a few posts claiming the burned disc skips at the second layer mark... is that common or even true? Thanks for your time and I appreciate any answers you may provide I'll be around
oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know which section my questions fell under.. not that I was overrun with responses anyway lol
Short answer -- if you go back to the DEFAULT settings, then you can be assured that DVDDecrypter will not in any way mess with the video quality. Those who want to ensure that they get a 100% perfect backup (minus the copy protection) are advised to leave the settings at their default. The only popular exception -- if you are going to be burning to a DVD+R, and your burner supports booktyping, then feel free to go ahead and make this one change. Other than that, the author of the program has repeatedly advised users to leave things as they are -- or were -- unless you are trying to deal with some specific issue on a specific disc (example: the disc is badly damaged, and will not rip, but you want to try to get as much of the data off of it as you can). --Bruce
