I tried to get answers for this on other thread but no one replied. I'm liking this 5005 so far. Can someone please tell me how to turn off the screen saver with script (ALL Write) from coming on when I'm recording or on playback? It seems to be on a timer. I looked for it in the manual but didn't see anything about it. Is it only ilo that can be changed to region free by punching 4 numbers in system s/ware or can I do it on my 5005? I thought I need 2 files, one for system and one for drive? I'm only able to dl the system file. That's the only one I see for 5005. It looks like you can put a password on certain titles. So they won't play unless you enter p/word, Is this true? If so how do I do it? Will it only work in this machine or other players to? Thanks
Let me get this right .. while you're recording with the 5005, your screensaver comes on? Anyway, I don't think that it's possible to turn the screensaver off. To make the 5005 region free .. •1. Enter set-up screen by pressing setup on the Remote Control. •2. Move cursor to 'Exit' •3. Using remote control: key 2,9,6,0 •4. On pop-up menu select 'Region Free' •5. Hit Setup again to go close setup menu. There are seperate files for the drive firmware and the system firmware .. but if the drive firmware is up to date, LiteOn will only supply you with system firmware No passwords as far as I know ..
I kept thinking about the 'password' thing .. maybe this is what you're talking about .. {taken from CDFreaks forum} Throughout the forum there are posts where users lose programs already recorded on the units. It happened to me upon inserting -r/+r dvds into my US 5005. On the dvd were episodes of shows I record until the dvd is filled and then finalized. It happened when I put the dvd in to record another episode. I inserted the dvd and then the _ _ _ appeared on the lcd screen. I could not stop it. When the 5005 was done the episodes were gone and the dvd was unusable. I now use the protection button on the edit screen and this has tried to occur again but due to the protection button it stopped it. I ejected the dvd and the 5005 recognized it and then I record another episode. I never used the protection because I knew I wouldn't erase any thing I wanted to keep, but who knew the 5005 would. The protection can be removed if you want to intentionally erase anything before finalizing.
Yes Catfreak, When it's on record or playback for around 5 min w/out touching remote buttons the screen saver comes on. Then you push a button like menu and it goes away. Doesn't anyone else have this problem? Thanks for the info to change to region free. What is the DVD or CD disc for that comes with the 5005? Is it firmware? Would the drive file be on same page as system file if needed? I didn't know you could erase a DVD-R or DVD+R. That's good to know that the machine can erase shows. I guess I'll start protecting everything. Thanks
The screensaver thing shouldn't be happening ... it may be a firmware problem The disc that comes with the recorder should be a DVD+RW (MKM A01 or MKM A02) The system and drive files are on the same page When you erase shows or whatever off of a DVD+R or a DVD-R disc, bear in mind that you cannot recover the space erased (can't be reused) I hope that you get as much enjoyment from your machine as I've gotten from mine Happy Burning Victor
So if I use the hacked f/ware it might stop bringing up the s/saver? Glad to hear they give you a RW. I hope so to. Thanks again
I think that I'd update my firmware and see if that cures the scree nsaver problem .. http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_dvd.htm I wouldn't apply any hacks, just the official firmware and see if that helps .. Repost when you do it with the results
If I update firmware with latest file will I be able to update again with same file but hacked? I really want to remove macro so I can record my old movie VHS and Beta tapes.
I have seen on here that this machine is well thought of. My question is about the tuner ? The machine sometimes gives off a high pitch sound ? My only question is, if I record a TV show onto DVD, will this sound be on the newly recorded DVD ?
@ Camfreak ... yes @Spreadking .. don't know about the tuner question .. mine doesn't make any noise and I use VCRs as my tuners anyways .. the LiteOn is a mono tuner and the VCR tuners hooked up to the RCA jacks give me stereo tuners ... :iteOn LVW-5005 tip: when you're recording, you can press the 'edit' button on your remote to insert chapter marks wherever you want them
