Ok. I know that I need a 2.0GB SD Card, an Action Replay thing for the Gamecube, and an SD Card Reader for the Gamecube.

So, here are some questions I have:

    1) Do I put the emulators and roms directly on the SD Card, and do I use that to play the games? Also, if i create a save state, does the "save state" save itself on the SD Card? Basically, do i need an actual Gamecube memory card to do any saving (if they exist, i don't know unless its like the X-Box where the system itself saves stuff) and do i need to burn anything onto any mini-DVDs?

    2) If I screw up during the one-time process where I have to put in that long code while using the SD Card and the action replay cd, will there be any permanent problems or will i just have to redo the code process? It won't screw up my Gamecube or SD Card or anything will it?

    3) If i want to put extra ROMs or emulators or anything on my SD Card for future use, can i just plug it back into my computer and add more stuff or do i need to get another SD card?

    4) Can I delete stuff off of an SD Card that I don't want?

    5) Does that XMAME emulator and the PC-Engine emulator work for the Gamecube via this method?

    6) Once again, as far as hardware is concerned, all i need is a gamecube system, the SD Card, the Action Replay set for the Gamecube and an SD Card Reader for the Gamecube, right? I don't need any mini-DVDs or some special cable to hook up my Gamecube to my computer or anything at all like that, yes? And all of the software is available for free off of the internet? (SDLoad.zip, emulator files, roms, etc.)

Sorry for questions that may be stupid, but all of this is new to me. Thanks

    1. The easiest way would be to load the emulator using SD Load and then play the roms off a mini DVD-R. If you like though, you probably could run the roms off the SD card, but I have no idea if that would work or not. The latest SNES GX emulator should save to the GC's SRAM, then transfer it to the memory card at your request. I don't know about the other emulators since I never use them. Last I checked though, SNESGX was the only one with full on save support. All the others only saved to SRAM, which would disappear as soon as you played a different game or possibly even load a different application.

    2. Nah, since it's just a soft mod, a mess up would just cause operating issues. No permanent damage should occur.

    3. Just use the same card, you'll be fine.

    4. Yes.

    5. As long as you're using one that's specifically designed for GC, I don't see why not.

    6. Yup. Pretty much. For the SD Loader stuff and emulators, try modthatcube, tehskeen, and Maxconsole. I'm sure you already know where to find roms.

Once again Venom you have helped me out big time. Thank you very much.

I have two other questions i'd like to ask:

    1) When I put the ROM's on a mini DVD-R, do i just put them directly onto the disc or do i need to create special folders for the Gamecube to read? And if I want to put roms for different emulators on can i just toss everything together or do i need to create separate folders like a SNES9X folder for SNES games and a XMAME folder for arcade games?

    2) Should i buy any specific type of mini DVD-R?

    3) If i also want to put XMAME and Hugo (the pc-engine emulator) onto the card, do i just toss everything into the same folder?

    4) Will there ever be a Sega Saturn emulator or Nintendo 64 emulator that plays on the Gamecube, and at full speed? I do own a N64 system and about 20 games, but i love how Project64 (an emulator on the pc) runs the games in high resolution without any drop in framerate.

Also, do the emulators that i put on the SD Card come downloaded as .DOL format or do i need to do something to manipulate them so that they become .DOL format?

What version of Action Replay? Do you just mean one designed for the Gamecube?

    1. Follow this guide on how to burn a readable disc. SNES9XGX should has a reliable disc browser if I remember right. I haven't used any the other two you mentioned though, so I don't have an answer for this part of your question unfortunately. I'd like to say that you could use folders for better organization though, although it isn't necessary.

    2. RiDATA miniDVD-Rs. Quite possibly the highest quality miniDVD-Rs available.

    3. For Hu-Go, yes, hust store the dol file on the root of the card. As for Xmame, I looked it up since I don't know much of anything about it and apparently you need to run GC Linux and then launch it. I've never used GC Linux, so I can't help you with that :/

    4. Unfortunately, no. Not even the Xbox can emulate those properly. The best N64 emulator would be the one Nintendo made for the N64 ports they made. However, the emulator itself is custom built to each game they released on the GC, so it doesn't work with all N64 games. I never bothered with it myself, so I can't really tell you much more about it.

SNES9X GX requires that you make the dol yourself like all of softdev's apps. In this case, he also requires that a rom be used to create it. Or, you can just use the one brucedlx made for his guide. Same idea applies to Hu-Go, as you'll need a PCE/TG16 image to make it.

I assume tabletpc is talking about how older versions of AR won't work on the newer ones. If you get (or have) the latest version, you should be fine. I think it's 1.14.
