Alright had a few quick questions about installing things like HD's and Drives into my xbox. In my signature is what I have in my xbox so I was wondeing what specifics I needed to do and if there were any tutorials around you could post links to etc. I have a standard 10GB xbox HD and thompson disk drive. I also have a crappy HP laptop that I was going to salvage some parts from and then I though well I wonder if I can use them In my xbox. I'm not excatly sure the brand and type etc. but I will have that info sooner or later. All i do know is that it is better than what i have in there right now. Anyways I was looking for some info on installations of the HD and Disk Drive and was wondering if it would work nin the xbox. I know my xecuter 3 chip can format harddrives but will it do it for disk drives too?? Also is there a way to salvage all of the existing stuff on this drive and put it onto the new one?? I just want to start out with replacing the HD and later see if I want to replace the disk drive too. So for the mean time any info you guys could give me on new HDs for my box wpuld be much appreciated!!! :)

I'm not sure about the xbox/laptop combination and transformation but you may be able to use your hdd. You'd need an adapter for the simple fact that of the cable differences between the two hdds. There are adapter out there so hit up your nearest computer store. Just tell them you need a "Laptop Hard Drive Adapter to Desktop Adapter (2.5" to 3.5")"

Secondly, you should remove all those sites of interest in your signature. You can't pimp other sites here and the MODs will address it if they see it. I'm sure you meant nothing by it but it's against the rules.

uniique1 is right on the money!

I would highly suggest just getting a new HD however, just because it will be more convenient than needing to go out and buy adapters. Get an ATA/133 interfaced HD; the brand name really doesn't matter. Quality brand names include Western Digital, Maxtor (some might disagree w/ this), Seagate and so on...

The Thomson drives are indeed the worst drives made for the Xbox. I would suggest going w/ a Samsung or Hitachi drive. Philips drives are "ok" as long as you get one manufactured after 2001. The newest Samsung drives are not quite as good as the older Samsung drives put in Xbox versions 1.1-1.5. You can also get aftermarket drives, and mod them to work w/ your Xbox, such as the LG or Samsung 616T or 616F, more info. on that can be found here, http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/203870 You do not need to do anything to the drive after you install it, it's all just PNP (plug and play).

To format your HD, config live on your X3 chip will work great.
