    Hey guys,
I'm new to this so I thought to get some answeers here.
I recently got me a the singstar PS2.
I did d/l a game and burned it with Nero (did it with "burn image " and "make data DVD").
When I tryed to play it it will give me the PS2 screen but then it says "Insert a playstation or playstation format disk".
I did read about a mod chip or boot disk with slider.Do I need those to play the games i d/l ? If so,I considering the boot disk since i still have warrenty on the console. Then again, what version do I get and since it is the slim console,i assume the slider is out of the question, since there is no slider on this version ?
Also, how can I copy rented(protected??) games ?Nero shut down when i try to copy the game.
    Thanks for the help

First yes you need Swap Magic 3.6 or 3.8 coder. And you will need Swap TooL Pro 2006 for the tools. Depending upon your version PS2 will depend which parts you need to put in your PS2 without voiding warranty.
Use Imgburn, its free to backup games, and to burn them with.
You can't use Data DVD in Nero, thats for things other than PS2 games.
Seeing your new at it, best to just stick with Imgburn.
Just do a search here on how to use it. Pretty straightforward to use.

If you have the SCPH-79001, from what I understand you only need to block the brake and the front sensor or just the front sensor in some cases. As long as the disc spins with the lid open once you block it, then you are good to go.
The tools are cheap though, and you could get them from modchip.com
I have bought from them. Depends where you live.
And yes Swap Magic works fine.

Cool, and Yes newsservers have the same files usually but are faster, at least I think so. Torrents are good too but use utorrent 1.6.1
This faq will help you out with DVD's and what types to use. Look at #2,#29,#56,#91,#97 and #112. Then read the others if you are interested in learning more.

the loadscreen comes up,switch the disc with the game i d/l,press the x on the controler to load the game and i get the msg "this is not a valid PS2 disc" or something like that
Any idea what the problem is?

Its probably because you used DVD +RW . The PS2 does not like those discs.
You need to use DVD-R or DVD+R for the Slim.
I mostly use DVD-R, if you use DVD+R, then you need to change the Booktype in Imgburn to DVD-ROM.
So try to burn another backup to DVD-R

As for the load screen not coming up always in Swap Magic, you may have gotten a bad Disc, and would have to return it for a replacement. Make sure the disc is pushed down all the way on the spindle.

    Hey Smokey,

    Thanks for all yr help.
Got a backup copie from 1 game and it works great.
Got another ? for ya though
I have a few PAL games from when i was in Europe, they do load but gives a rolling black/white screen.Refresch rate i assume.
You have any idea if there is a program that convert those PAL games in NTSC ? Cant change my tv.I did some searching and DVD decrypter might do it but that is no longer.Dont think Imgburn does it.There was a patched posted here also but that page is no longer available (http://www.geocities.com/jayteemaster2003/ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix_source.zip)
I hope you dont mind that I ask you so much and i hope you know something with this problem.would be a chame if i couldnt use those games.

    Thanks again

Yes a lot of those games may have their own screen adjustment in the options once you can get into the game, or they may have the 50/60 selector.
But I either use the ADR Patcher or the Pal to NTSC y-fix to get past the rolling screen problem. The Ps2_pal2ntsc will let you choose a screen offset in case the screen is too low.
If for some reason you need to restore your original SLES file, you can use this PALtoNTSC to restore the file. It has the restore feature, whereas the other converter doesn't.
The ADR Patcher also lets you restore if it doesn't work, but most of the time it does work just fine.
A good thread on this is here:

    Hey Smokey,

    Forget the previous 1.
    I did figured it out.
Works fine except 1 little detail and kinda important for those games.
Its Singstar but the song is not lined up with the text or whatever you call it
I tryed to use Virtualdub but it doesnt rec ISO.
Any other program you know with explenation incase i cant figure it out

    Thanks

Is there any options in the game that allow you to change the screen size.
If not you can try the Pal To NTSC y-fix to change the offset.
You can try Offset 56 or 64.
If that doesn't work, you may have to find a NTSC version.
I don't have the game so you could also do a forum search here on Singstar PAL version on a NTSC PS2.

I probably didnt explained the problem right to you

Its the A/V that is not in sync
Any program you know for that ?
Virtualdub is not a good 1

    Thanks

ok i was just wondering will i be able to play burnt games using; a usb flash drive, a xploit system (xploder v5), and the ps2 and the MC, ive looked on the web and found a few tutorials but none work so far. ive used independace v4.1 and that didnt work. i have a V9 ps2
(SCHP-50002) and have made myself a swipe card which works (surprisingly), i dont know if i am doing something wrong. However i have a feeling that it could be my choosen psx disk, i am using "medievil" i looked on the internet and found the "sces" and it was different to the one on the disk (sces_003.11). if anyone can help that would be awesome.
