I've just bought an Xbox 360 Arcade. I did some checking up and found out it has a LiteOn DVD drive. Now, here's where I need help.

    1) I wanted to purchase a modchip (Globe 360 V2 Xbox 360), but I believe after some research that the modchip isn't compatible with this DVD Drive - am I right?

    2) What on earth are all these connectivity kits? From what I can tell, you connect one to your DVD drive, and connect the other end to your PC (through USB) and somehow flash it. Now, would that work for my Xbox? And is it really that simple?

    3) Can a modded Xbox 360 only play "stealth" backups or normal backups as well? And can it play old Xbox titles too?

to start with, change the thread name, in the rules it says dont use names that say help me, im lost or anything like that. but to answer your questions.

    1) not sure, dont use modchips, but i dont think that one will work with your drive.

    2) they make it easier to flash the drive, in order to flash your lite-on drive you either need a ck3 with probe, or you need to solder on the pcb of your lite-on drive and make yourself a serial port reader to dump the drive key.

    3) again, not positive, havent ran hacked firmware in over a year, not sure what the changes are now, but i think it will only run stealth backups as a precaution to keep you from getting banned from xbox live. and they will run original xbox titles as long as they are stealthed as well.

Sorry about the title, I can't figure out how to change it.

Well, thanks for the info. But if I wanted to mod it, then could I do it like this:

Use a connectivity kit and spoof the DVD drive's firmware to something like Samsung, and then install a modchip and use that to play backups.

    Another question:
When you flash the drive's firmware, does that give it the ability to play backups?

UPDATE: I just read up some more, and from what I've read, it seems that you copy a "key" from the LiteOn drive and paste it onto another DVD drive, which you use to replace the original LiteOn one with. Is this true?

yeah, thats what you can do for now, but wait until christmas eve and you will be able to flash the firmware on the lite-on and save yourself the cost of a new dvd drive.

OK - So assuming this "fix" thing will come out by then, what would I do? I still don't understand the point of the flashing process.

    What I think it is:

You have two flash firmwares: Original and Backup-Bootable

When you want to play backups, you flash it with the backup firmware

And when you want to use Live, you flash it back with the original.

    Am I right?

nah you just flash the hacked firmware. you dont have to flash back the normal. they make sure you can only use stealth patched backups which is believed to be xbl safe.

If you're going to want someone to flash your liteon, you can send it to me. From what I've read, it seems it will be easy enough for me, plus I will be able to do the solderless method.

Send me a pm if interested.
