R4 card start help

hi all,

i have follwed the psp scene for a few years now, but have just bought a new ds (not dsi) for my son and am wondering is there an idots guide explaining the R4 card thing?

i know nothing about it apart from that i understand backed up games can be stored and played from this? is this true? is there a guide i can use please.
