i think the r4 system files have a ds_menu.dat or .ini or .nds extensions, also have folders _system_ or moonshl, so keep those. all games have a .nds extension. and your save files can be .sav or maybe another format, sorry i cant remember which, its been long time since i last use r4. you know its a save file when the save name is the same as the game name, ie mariokart.sav

    1. Gibberish to you or "really" gibberish? (as in unrecognizable characters, etc.)

    2. The root directory of the microsd card should contain the following:

    _system_ (a directory)
    moonshl (a directory)
    _DS_MENU.DAT (a file)
    _DS_MSHL.NDS (a file)

Anything else would be games and save files.

Games would be files that end in .nds
Save files would be files that end in .sav

If you really have "gibberish" the microSD could be corrupted or the reader could be bad. If you determine that the microSD is corrupted you will need to format it with your PC as FAT and start over from scratch.
