I think it might be just the mirco sd im using :/

    I was sold a R4 but I believe its a N5 (so i have the latest N5 firmware)

Well now I'm still having the same problems I did when I had the R4.

I can play games for awhile. It's only when I play them for a long time and shut off the game.
I get the dreaded "loading" black screen.

    I have a SanDisk 1Gb.
Do I just get a new chip? Or is there another solution?

I am very sorry to see you got scammed a N5 instead of a legit R4.
N5 is a very bad clone, and in fact, many users do experience what you're experiencing now as well. Make sure you check before you buy next time.

    Good luck!

the n5ds is a very poor clone of a r4ds and i am sorry to see that you got scammed ,the n5ds has been know to blow fuses on the nintendo ds !

personally i wouldnt use it , i would buy a different more reliable flashcart instead .

    cyclods evolution
    edge ds
    dstt

    found solution to R5:
download latest firmware (1.19 at present) and unzip

format MicroSD to Fat or Fat23

Copy firmware onto MSD in this order ONE BY ONE !!!!!!
    This step is very important!!!!

    1. DS_MENU.DAT
    2. _AXMENU.DAT
    3. _DS_MSHL.DNS
    4. _SYSTEM_ folder
    5. moonshl folder

Then load your .nds files into the root.

If you want to use mp3 create seperate folder and move mp3s into that.

I'v had absolutely no problems with this card so far and if
    installed correctly it works brilliantly!!!

    good luck!
