I can't get my R4 SDHC to work with custom themes properly. Only the default ones work. If I try and use any other theme other than the originals it comes out all messed up. Here's a pic.

My R4 SDHC is the r4ultra version and I'm using firmware 1.51 from the r4ultra.com site.

Other R4 SDHC firmwares won't work (there are like 5 different types of R4 SDHC). Using them will just get a freeze on the loading screen. And yes I know my card is a clone.

Anyone with my version, any ideas?

I've already sent them a message a few days ago but they don't answer. Its a problem with the firmware cause it's only this one that has the problem.

And nope when I press select nothing happens.

    Hi

I have had the exact same problem and i know what the problem is but not how to fix it.

The original themes work because all the .BMP files have a bit depth of 16 were as when you get these normal R4 themes these files have a bit depth of 24.

Using standard paint i have managed to get the files (through save as) to different bit depths such as 4 and 8 but cannot get it to a bit depth of 16.

if anyone knows how to change the bit depth to 16 or which program would do this please help.

I've tried saving the images as 16bit (even if the colours are lost) but it still comes out all messed up. For me the default themes are 24 bit. Another thing I noticed is that the default theme pics are like 98kb in size and the custom ones are all 144kb in size.

are you sure the original theme is in 24 bit because when you right click on the photo and go properties and then summary it says the bit depth is 16 and when you do this on the standard R4 theme it comes up with 24. also when i loaded one i saved in 8 bit it sort of came up instead of being fuzzy it had a couple of the picture down the bottom.

the R4 ultra theme has a bit depth of 16. Any other R4 takes a bit depth of 24.

Guess what guys, I solved the problem :D

My bad yungi123, the original themes were 16 bit like you said, not 24 bit. So the files just have to be saved as 16 bit bitmap files.

To change them to 16 bit I opened/edited the files with Adobe Photoshop and then 'Save As'. When saving as a bitmap, you have the option what depth to save as, and you just select 16 bit. Pictures look exactly the same when changed to 16 bit and once loaded onto the DS they look normal!

The only downside is that you have to re-save every file as 16 bit in each theme but at least you don't have to use the horrible default themes.

Here are a couple custom themes I downloaded and changed to 16 bit for you guys to try out.
