Ok, just got mine in the post today. It works, but for some reason will randomly cause my ds to shut off. Right in the middle of a game. It can be anywhere from 3 seconds to several minutes after i power on the system. What is causing this? it is most frustrating. Any ideas? Anyone else having the same problem? Hopefully this makes some sense to someone and i can get some help.

Check your battery. Flashcarts comsume more power than regular game carts. If you have a marginal battery this could be it even though the DS should show "red" first. Does it happen if you have the chgarger plugged in?

Other than that it could be poor contact in slot 1, twitchy micro SD, or a bad flashcart.

allright, new addition to the problem. I reformatted the sd card. Game played fine for 20 minutes. Then the system shut off. Now when i try to turn it back on it only flashes both screens white momentarily then shuts back down. What the heck is going on? even with the r4ds cartridge out and a gba cart inserted it still does this! Does this point to a really crappy battery? Will the system not turn on if the battery is dead even if its plugged into the wall? I dont know whats going on here. No problems with my ds until i got this dang r4. Where do i go from here?

oh my, sorry to hear that. from what you said about ds turns on then shut off immediately, MAY means one or two fuses is blown. I am not trying to scare you or anything, its just there some users reporting fuses blown after they use the N5 Card. if you do a google search for 'n5 card blown fuse' you can read all about it.
i hope yours is ok. does it plays a normal commercial game cartridge?

no, it turns off the same way with a commercial gba cart also.

also just put a brand new battery in it! still turns on then immediately off. Oh, if i let it sit for a day or so, it will turn on for a few seconds to a minute, then right back off.

Have you tried a regular DS game card to see if its just a buggy R4?

I think your fuse must be blown, the R4 has been known to do that....

Or was that the N5? I can't remember...

Anyway, you need a soldering gun and bridge it.

should i try fuses 1 and 2? they both look fine and both give good readings, but i can try it. What do you advise? Just put a drop of solder across both fuses?

I never bridged anything. Try the Acidmods.com forums, they specialize in this type of thing. Just to double-check, because you don't want to short anything with the solder.
