I just setup a raid system. Everything works great except I can't get my 3rd non raid storage HD to work. It doesn't show in the BIOS, but when I get to the desktop I get a message that says additional storage device found. In disk management it says disk 1 unknown, not initialized, unallocated. I click on new volume and pick a drive letter, next screen says format partition. I choose do not format this volume cause I have 100gb of data on it that I do not wish to lose. I click on finish and I get this error message: The operation could not be completed because the disk is not initialized. How do I get this drive to work without formatting it? Thank you.
Hardware or software raid? What OS? If its a software raid and your trying to add a new disk that might have data on it, you will have to "import" the "foreign disk". or In computer management you can right click the drive and say initialize. otherwise have you tried hooking the disk up to a USB adapter to ensure its not the disk.
I'm using hardware raid and vista. When I hook it up instead of just working it tells me to format, which I can't do. I hooked it up to a second computer and it too told me to format. If I can't get this drive to work without formatting how can I get my data of it?
