hi i have a little problem i have this desktop (the one i said on the subject) I have its original PC100 128MB RAM but my cousin gave me a PC133 256MB RAM it will work if i put both or only the 256 one? plz help X.x thanks!!
The XL761 does support PC133 memory up to 256MB modules. You would be wise to only use the PC133 stick - if you want to use more than 256MB of memory in the system, buy another stick of PC133 - you will also need to use the same brand of memory in both slots. See here to purchase guaranteed compatible memory: http://shop.crucial.com/1/4/17638-hp-compaq-pavilion-xl761-desktop-pc-memory-module.html
product spec link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...6166&lc=en&cc=ca&dlc=en&product=60468&lang=en motherboard spec link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...5883&lc=en&cc=ca&dlc=en&product=60468&lang=en both specs links say different for total ram amount so try the 256meg to see if seen properly or shows up as 128meg. don't need to use another pc133 ram as will only run as pc100.
the 256 didnt work :S but i dont know why D: might be that the motherboard didnt recognize the memory? X__x i cant take photos of my memory cuz my cam ermm.... broke XD but this is the same as the one i have:
it didnt start when i turn on the pc it shows a blue screen with the HP logo thats the d but when i put the 256mb that doesnt even appears D: it never starts
weird my post didnt show completely xD well 128MB = Starts pefectly (the first thing to show up in the screen is the HP Logo) 256MB = Doesnt start not even the HP logo and the screen is black (yes the monitor is turned on XD)
On modern systems using DDR RAM that would be a problem, but your system is using sdram which isn't quite so finicky. There's a very good chance that both sticks will work together and you can try them without fear of harm to your system. I don't know what your system's bus speed is but that probably won't matter either since PC133 is back compatible to 100. The only thing that might make kind of neutral (no gain no loss) is if your systems chipset is limited to 64 MBs. Even still I would try it because there won't be any fires or explosions. Just be sure to shut down power first. If it doesn't work than there is a good chance that you have a bad stick of memory.
u_u maybe the ram is damaged but there is no scratch burn or anything unusual on it D: well i think im gonna get a new one XD but thanks all for the help
