Evening all, been playing with my new (2nd hand) notebook. First thing im doing in installing wifi!!! Anyway to the point, the system is currently as follows- Celeron CPU 2.60GHz 1.94GHz, 224 MB of Ram I want to add some Ram, now how can I tell what sort of Ram to buy (cause im cheap, going to try and score 2nd hand off Ebay)and can I go straight up to 1024? Ive checked space availibility and have two slots. I am getting lost with DDR, DDR2 etc, obviously buying of Ebay would like to research Ram required first. Any input would be appreciated.
what is the laptop capable of going to in ram? what does your manual say about type of ram? what is the make & model# of the laptop?
try this program to see what type of ram you have and then you can decide what you want. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html it will give you all the info about your pc specs.
@ DDP, Laptop is an ASUS A2H, went to Asus website and downloaded manual, however when it came to replacing Ram/ HDD etc no information available other than "take to an authorised Asus technician" @ sammorris / iPirate, will download now and post info.

Well , i have googled my system and existing ram and I am thinking I need a 200 pin? Any suggestions/ideas? does this sound right?
Generally I don't find the need to worry about pin numbers, there's a different pin number for each type anyway. if it's a laptop with DDR1 then get DDR1 SODIMM memory, if it's a laptop with DDR2 then get that. Simple really!
also, it is good to have the same size ram if you are getting two, so et 2 512MB or 2 1GB, not 1 512MB and 1 1GB. I dont know why but matching pairs is best,
yeah, im trying to get a second hand bargain on Ebay (if bargains still exist!!) Im hoping to score 1x 512, then another down the track.
I would sell my old stuff on ebay gladly, but wouldn't trust it to buy stuff. Not things as sensitive as RAM.
