hi by the sound of it your hard drive is partitioned as FAT32 and it needs to be NTFS so it can unpack the over 4 gig restrictions made by a FAT32 file system...
ok like "Yrator" said you must convert your fat32 drive or partition to ntfs to do so, follow the instuctions on this page : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/convertfat.mspx good luck, retro78
http://www.ntfs.com/quest3.htm states: Q: Is it possible to convert a FAT32 Hard Drive to NTFS without losing all data on the drive? I like to change from FAT32 to NTFS, my operating system is Windows XP PRO, how can I do that? Without the lost of my programs? A: Standard Windows utility that is called CONVERT serves this purpose Just go to the Command Prompt and execute the command: C:\> CONVERT C: /fs:ntfs Where C: is a name of the drive you want to convert. After machine re-boot conversion process will start and you'll have your FAT32 converted to NTFS without of data loss.
hi all, thanks for your help.i'm in the middle of trying to convert the drive.after typing the instruction to convert i get this message: convert cannot run because the volume is in use by another process.convert may run if this volume is dismounted first.ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.would you like to force a dismount to this volume? (y/n) do i want to do this???
