I just bought a new motherboard and processor and ram. The mother board is a Foxconn Socket A or Socket 462 with 3 slots for DDR ram. It has 2 IDE ports and 2 SATA raid ports. The processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2600 and is running at 1.83 Ghz with a FSB of 166 Mhz. I have DDR 333 Mhz Ram, 1 Stick of 512 and 2 Sticks of 256 to total 1Gb. I also have a 128Mb GeForce FX 5200 video card and I have one problem, everytime I restart my comp after running for a bit, the comp sounds like its rebooting fine but then it doesnt come up with any video on the reboot. After letter the system set off for a few min it will come on a be just fine. I was wondering what this could be. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Well the mobos not great... espescially if its brand new bought as socket A is being phased out. personally id have got atleast a socket 754 board and a sempron processor (this would have worked out at about the same price) anyway thats you mobo rating. As for the hardware error does your mobo have onboard graphics? if it does remove your 5200, boot up your machine and do a reboot to see if you get the same problem
No it doesnt have onboard. I dont know what to do because ive tried taking the video card out and receeding it back in and it didnt help. Hmm, what should my cpu temp be running at? maybe i dont have enough cooling?
Oh shit i just looked at your comp 1 and it runs at mid 40's when under stress? Mine is running at 60 celcius!!! I have the stock cooling that came with the processor. Isnt that supposed to cool it correctly?
Take the CPU fan off, clean the compound off and re-do it. There should be a very very thin, even layer spread across the fan before seating it. Using a credit card helps get a good spread. I presume the fan is clean with no dust, as it is new. Then when rebooting the PC, go into BIOS and make sure the video settings are correct. Try clearing the CMOS as well. I would also try removing the 2 256 MB sticks and running the 512 on its own, then try each stick on its own. Some boards are very picky about what makes and mix of memory will run okay. Also list the board model number.
Plus make sure that your CPU fan is plugged into the proper three pin connecter designated for it so that your M/B can tell when to speed up or slow down the CPU fan depending on the CPU temp.
