i have the avi-wmv-rm-mpeg joiner software and it does not join the video files together correctly. i have started to download the whole file instead of two or three smaller files. problem is when i go to change the rar file to mpeg i get two files, cd1 and cd2. i have vcgear but it does not recongize the rar file, i have to use the cue-bin to mpeg opion. is there a way or a program that will read the rar file and give me one output file so i don't have to join anything?

No. The rar has 2 seperate cd's. If you want to join them you have to do it yourself as you probably know. By the way, the joiner you are using is intended for small clips even though they don't tell you that on the website. It has always given me problems when trying to join mpegs any larger than 50mb and forget about using it for mpeg-2 files completely. Use a real mpeg editor like Womble MPEG2 VCR. Honestech MPEG Editor is decent too.

i tried the wombie mpeg2vcr and can not get it to join files. what would a good file joiner be? i need to join big files and have the one file be joined cleanly and able to play and burn to dvd with no bad joins. thanks

Womble works fine. Exactly what problem did you have?

No problem. Open your first mpeg with Womble and drag the playback slider all the way to the end of the file and click the "insert marker" button. If you're not sure which one that is, hold your mouse pointer over each of the buttons just below the mpeg window. A little tool tip should pop up and tell what each button is called. Once you insert the marker at the end of the file, click on the "insert effect" button and another window should pop open. Click on the button next to the "input track" window and when the file browser pops up, change the "files of type" slider to "all files" and find your second mpeg and select it. When you get back to the insert effect window, click "ok". Click the save button just below the mpeg window, select a file name, then click the button clearly marked "save". Wait for it to spit out your file and you're done.

Note: the only way to join mpegs without re-encoding them in Womble is if the two files are the exact same type, frame rate, bitrate, etc. And it should go without saying that it will only work for mpegs, as the name suggests. Good luck.

well, when i open the wombie i see a clip board, buttons at top say open video, i open the video but there is no bars to drag bact to the start. the video shows(the first frame) and just sits there. do i open the project editor or something else? the clip board is a small white patch to the left of the video. i can find nothing to set back at the beginning, or an insert button. checked all the buttons and i don't have one.

Use the button in the upper left corner that looks like a piece of paper with the corner turned to open the mpeg.

yes, but i still do not see anything to drag back to the start. do i have the right wombie, do i need something else to go with it? the file opens, does not play, says ready at the bottom but nothing happens. nothing else is apparent to do anything with.

Go to Tools>Options and you can change the image display size to half or quarter.
