So I finally got my PC working where I can control it remotely through my laptop but my problem is this.

When I use RDP to control my desktop I see it as full screen, just like I would see it on the actual PC but when I connect my laptop(while using RDP) to my tv, my screen changes so that I see both the RDP screen showing the desktop and my laptop taskbar. It's so confusing to try and explain but it's almost as if the RDP screen is minimized as soon as I connect it to an external display.

I can't figure out what to do here. I want to be able to control and stream movies from my desktop through my laptop using RDP or something else and then to play it on my tv.

Anyone know what I should do here?

If you decrease the resolution of the display while you are running a remote desktop session, then it will resize the remote desktop session display window (the actual RD display size will remain the same, and scroller bars will be added to the side and bottom). All you have to do is double-click the blue bar at the top of the RD window and it should maximize again...if the resolution of your TV is actually lower than that of your laptop screen (or of a different aspect ratio) then you have to start the RD session after connecting the TV.
