I have my xbox torn completely down, heat sinks off, chips cleaned up, and supplies bought (ie. Sticky putty, tinfoil, thick plastic sheet, 1200W heat gun). I am ready to do this re-flow :)

I have already done the x-clamp fix, and 12v fan mod along with ducting, this is my last resort..

However I do have some questions.. What gets the heat?

Bottom Side: Under the GPU, CPU, 4 RAM and HANA chips?

Top Side: GPU, CPU, 4 RAM, HANA?

    ^^ Correct?? ^^

What is the other big chip that is off to the side of the HANA and in front of the video plug in?

I am getting a weird error by doing the Sync and Eject procedure.. I get four really quick flashing lights, then one quick flashing light, then three quick flashing, but then i get two slow flashing lights.. which I think are the original two RROD before doing the sync eject thing. Does this mean a three digit code of 013? or a code of 0132? It is an unknown code from what I have seen. Two RROD shows error codes 0011, 0012, and 0013. I get two RROD immediately after starting up, this must be done.

I do 1 minute on the low setting on the bottom heating the entire board. This is basically a "poor man's griddle/bottom heater" where you're trying to avoid thermal shock. Then on the top I hit all the chips you mentioned plus the southbridge (that other chip). Sometimes the break can be under there, sometimes cpu/gpu, hana or ram...you cant tell without an xray so I just hit them all.

What about the Oven Preheat? working up from around 50 to 90-100 over a minute or two?

I think that w00ly means the 1 minute on low heat on the bottom of the board simulates the preheat phase whilst reducing the chances of warping the mobo etc.

did the reflow, was not a success. must have not gotten hot enough.. its scary your first time! that air coming out of there is CRAZILY HOT. lol

I did get further in to the load up sequence tho.. so it was not a total loss. it just needs more heat. So i was getting 0013, now i am getting 0012 both 2 RROD.

SO it looks like 0013 was a RAM over heat, where as 0012 is a GPU overheat. Does it just need another go with the heat gun? maybe a little closer to the mobo? I was about a fist and a half up on high when i was doing it... seriously afraid of wrecking things!

Yeah, try again. Your distance sounds about right. Are you using liquid flux?
