Thanks for reading... I've copied a file on my Panasonic DVD recorder to a DVDRW disk and can't read it in Explorer. Only Nero can show details, Explorer shows it as a blank disk. My first thought was I hadn't finalised it... but the Panasonic won't let me. The option is grayed out. Anyone know why and how to get around it? (Is it something to do with Video Vs VR mode?) Thanks for any suggestions.
As far as I know, RW discs can't be finalized. They don't need to be closed to play, unlike regualar +R and -R discs.
I think you can. The book talks about unfinalising a DVDRW disk and the differences between VR and Video modes. About a year ago I recorded some stuff onto the DVD recorder (Pioneer 720H-s) from VHS tape. I copied it to a DVDRW disk and could read that in Explorer (WIn XP) and load it into TMPGenc. I edited out all the ads and burnt new DVDs on the computer with Nero. I did have some hassles which I sorted out.. and now can't remember! Was it a -RW or +RW, were they finalised or not?? It was VR mode and a rewritable though. I even tried writing something to the disk to see if the DVD Recorder would read it, but had no luck with that.
Mystery solved! The program was NTSC and our system here is PAL. After changing the line input from 625 to 525 lines on the Pioneer, I could finalize the disk. Explorer sees '.Sys-Reserved-RW-Bitmap.GROW' and a Folder called DVD_RTAV. In there is an .IFO file and a .VRO file. The .VRO will load ok !!! If any guru's out there know even more, I'd like to catch up! Thanks, MM
