Hi, This is my first post, I have been searching around in Forums for the past couple of months trying to sort out my problem. I have a Sony VAIO PCG-K315S Laptop, with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K14 For about a year I copied stuff on DVD-R no problems however over the last few months I have been able to copy onto a blank DVD-R disc but when I come to play it back on my laptop it will not recognise the disc. There is no problem with DVD+R copy and read no probs. I would really appreciate some help
Hi hastingsb Welcome to aD What media are you using? Like Sony -R 16x. May be part of the problem. Try taking the burn speed down if burning at the max 8x. I would also check Sony site and see if there is a firmware update for this drive. Have you tried playing the discs back in a player? I run into the same problem on my laptop burner (different manufacturer though). Burns them and will play playback in a player but not always the drive itself. And I only use Taiyo Yuden 8x (one of the best) for this drive.
Thanks for the reply Binkie7, I use Traxdata DVD-R 8x. I have tried looking for firmware but have had no luck The copied discs do work in my panasonic DVD player no problems and on my Dell PC. Do you think it could be the media then, the only thing is I have always used the Traxdata stuff so I cannot understand why this has happened
I'm leaning more towards the drive itself - esp since they play in players and another drive. Looks like the Traxdata might be made by Ritek which is decent stuff. Laptop burner aren't as sturdy as their pc counterparts. The tend to be more picky plus the laptop manufacturers are the ones that support the drive and support is sometimes limited at best to non existant. For now I would just use the +R media for this drive if you want to play it backed on the laptop.
I think I will stick with your last comment, I was going to uninstall the dvd drive and then reinstall but I got a bit techy Thanks again
You're welcome You always give that a go - can't really hurt - if the drive continues to give you problems. Just can uninstall it in device manager then reboot and let windows do it's thing and reinstall it.
