realtek rtl8139

    i am getting network adapter card is missing message when trying to connect to the internet to activate norton antivirus. i recently removed some malware haven't been able to connect to the internet since. i believe that i may still have more malware because when attempting to connect with internet explorer(i am usually connected through msn) i am being redirected to bogus antispyware sites. don't know what to do now please help!

    ok i've ditched norton but i can't connect to the internet at all.

    "network adapter card is missing" suggests the driver for your network adapter may have been uninstalled, whether accidentally, or forcefully by malware. Look up the driver section for your motherboard or network card (if it's separate) and reinstall the driver.

    ok do i do that in the device manager? not quite sure how

    Go the manufacturer's website, so in this case Realtek.
