so, it's upgrade time again. so far, i have my disc drives, my fans, my case and psu, my modem, my graphics card, monitor, keyboard, mouse, hard drives, and drink holder.

all i can think of that's left is the processor, motherboard, and ram. so,if you get a minute, please tell me if you think the following three will work well together. if you can think of a better performer or match near the price range of each item, please do tell :)

    [bold]Processor:[/bold]
    AMD Athlon 64 FX55 San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail

    [bold]Motherboard:[/bold]
CHAINTECH S1689 Socket 939 ULi M1689 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152052

    [bold]Ram:[/bold]
gigaram 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - Retail
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820221005

it all comes down to about $922.00 at the moment for the three parts. i'm splitting the costs down the middle with my parents in exchange for some extensive computer services, and at the moment this seems like a rather nice little package.

thanks so much for any input, y'all! :)

i've worked the summer to fund this little venture, so yeah, the chip is worth it. do you think it will work well with the mobo and the ram? which of the two chips to you recommend most, master tech-ai?

If you plain on buying a next generation gfx card when you have the cash would you not need to buy a new mobo later as newer gfx card are pci-e, unless your going for a 66\6800 which you can get in agp.

thing is, i can extend the life of my current gfx card by upgrading the rest of my system. plus, i really love my A-I-W system :)

so, does it look like the Clawhammer, Gigabyte, and Corsair i've selected will work well together?

the only way would be to replace the motherboard with 1 that has a pci/e slot on it & corresponding videocard.

the only way to do that would be to have more cash...and seeing as i truly desire both that fx55 and making my car payments, i feel i'll stick with my current graphics card. should work fine though, shouldn't it, master? :) lol, i've looked a little more, and i think the clawhammer does sound better than the san diego. if all goes well, i'll have them ordered by the end of the week and by the end of next week be running on a beast of a machine! XD

if you can, set the board up outside of the case to make certain it will post as it is a pain in the butt finding out after installing the board & it is a duff board!!
