I'm using Sonic Record Now (version 6) to burn avi files onto DVD+RW's so that I can watch these programs on my TV via my DVD Divx machine. I have had no problems burning, erasing and reburning these disks. But that has been in the context where I've filled the DVD+RW close to capacity so that the only way to add more avi's has been to erase the disk.

But I've had a few disks that I hadn't burned to capacity, I'd watched the avi's I had on it but if I had additional capacity for more content I'd reburn the disk. Every time that has happened I've destroyed the disk, my DVD Divx player couldn't read the disk and I couldn't erase it! When I tried to place that disk in my computer's DVD player, either my computer wouldn't recognize the DVD and/or Sonic Record Now wouldn't erase it!

My question is, if I've burned a DVD+RW and if there's still additional capacity to add more content, can I reburn it as is? Or am I stuck, meaning that once I've burned it, I can't reburn the DVD+RW unless I erase first it and start again.

    Thanks for any help.

You're doing better than me, i've yet to be able to re-use a dvd-rw. I've reformatted the DVD-RW every which way i can find but divx burner won't accept any dvd unless it's brand new and unused.
I can use and re-use these dvd-rw's in my dvd recorder, it doesn't care. I'm stuck having to use new media for divx burner though.

    Hi Rustbuket:

I'm just a little confused by what you're trying to say because you're throwing in the wrong terms for certain things and it's hard for me to follow your story.

Ok first, what software do you use to burn your DVD RW's? Because first you call it a divx burner but there's no such thing, maybe that's your first problem. Most basic burning software will burn DVD's and CD's in one of three ways: putting on data, making an audio CD and burning DVD folders to create a DVD formatted project. Are you using the same setting that is the burning data option when you try to reburn your disk? Also all standard burning software has an erase disk option that will work on DVD RW's and CD RW's.

Second and this is where I think is your big problem lies, it's when you say that you've tried to reformat a disk. You never need to reformat a rewritable DVD or CD, if you want to re-use it, first erase it. Unfortunately, I hadn't always done that first if I had extra room on a DVD RW; my burning software allowed me to add new avi's but then the disk would be unreadable. I think your burning software has a better default option then mine in that it won't reburn a DVD RW unless you first erase it. When you say your divx burner won't accept it, I believe what it's saying to you is that you must erase the disk first before it will allow you to reburn it. So once you've finished watching a DVD RW, place it back into your computer and find the erase disk option on the burning software, erase the disk and then try to reburn it.

Third, you mention your DVD recorder? A recorder, do you mean a DVD Divx player? Are you talking about placing DVD RW's and watching them on a DVD Divx player or are you talking about an actual DVD recorder, like VHS player/recorder? Because recording TV programs from a DVD recorder uses a different type of software program and I believe it automatically wipes the disk clean before it rewrites over a DVD RW.
