I called up Panasonic here is the USA and complained about my DVD recorder not recording thru TVGuide programming when the unit is off.
I just noticed this recently - that the unit will not at times start recording when a show is set up to record. However if I turn the unit on when it should be recording the unit goes into record and records the program! Very Strange!!

Anyway the Tech Rep told me to send my 2 to 3 yr unit in for service and I asked her what could they possible do to fix it. Apparently a FW bug or something. After a long conversation she told me she would ship me a new Firmware CD...and I would receive it in 3 to 5 days. She told me it was a newer one then what panasonic has posted on their website. Why couldn't she tell me this is the beginning? I guess they want you to send the unit in for service and pay a min of $75 to $100 just for someone to update the firmware (took less then 5 minutes and was extremely easy to do).

I don't know yet if this will correct the problem but time will tell.
I am also wondering if they fixed the timer recordings so that when you want the unit to record for 5 minutes, 60 minutes, or whatever it doesn't add an additional minute. I would bet that this is not fixed from preliminary tests.

Anyway hopefully Panasonic will post this new upgrade on the web for everyone else to use to update their buggy firmware. All I had to do was insert the disk and with the draw open turn the unit off. Then just wait a few minutes while the display showed what was being upgaded....it was that easy.

Well it looks like the new FW update doesn't fix the record problem!

Tonight I was using TVGuide programming to record "24" and it didn't start recording at 9PM....only at 9:02 when I noticed it didn't start and I turned on the unit....then it went into record.

Panasonic I hope you are working on a solution to this problem?????

Why won't my unit record TVGuide programs when they are set to? This doens't happen to all programs just some.

I just did a reset of my recorder to see if that solves the problem of the recording not starting with the unit off at times. Most of the time it works correctly...time will tell.

I think I have a similar problem with my DMR-E85S. I have a whole listing of scheduled programs to record. Last night I had a show that I wanted to record (on the hard drive) from 7 - 8pm. The record light went on and I assumed everything was fine. However, when I turned the unit on later in the evening to watch the show, it was not listed in the play list. There was nothing there. In fact, now that I think about it, it didn't record The Apprentice on Monday night either - although the red record light was on.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks -

My E85H also forgets to turn itself on and record on Mondays and Wednesdays. I've lost alot of "Lost" and "Alias" episodes. I installed the original firmware patch a year ago which solved my lockups. But is there a new firmware update to solve this new problem? Can I get it online?
