Hi, I am in North County Dublin and up until the nag3 rollout, I was using a Starview 4 USB. Since that went down I have been looking into Free to air channels via satellite and also the possibility of receiving any sk*y channels via a dish. I have seen dishes in aldi, power city etc. so getting the dish isnt the problem. Here are my two questions: - My tv has a freeview tuner built in so do I need to get the satellite dish and the box or just the satellitle dish - Is it possible to receive sk*y channels with the dish without having a sk*y card? Thanks
On your first question you need to check is it a Freeview or Freesat tuner in it. Freeview is DVB-T (Digital Terrestrial Television) which is Mpeg-2 in most of Europe and Mpeg-4 in Ireland. Freesat is DVB-S which is Satellite. Sorry, and on your second question you will need to read here http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/shy_channels_on_sat_with_dreambox_500s-794779/
Thanks alot. I'd forgotten I have looked into this whole card sharing business before. All seems a bit complicated for a complete satellite beginner. Thanks for clarifying the difference between freeview and freesat. My tv only receives the digital terrestrial channels. Just one more question: What freesat receiver(box)should I get and would you recommend any of these dishers: http://www.powercity.ie/?par=20-14-MC086
Sorry bout that. If you go to powercity.ie and then put the word dish into the search box on the left the you shoudl get up the page. Thanks.
Yeah if our aiming at astra 2d (sky & freesat) any of those will do. Anything over 60cm should be fine once your in UK & Ireland. Before you buy though you might want to think about if your going to put a freesat box in a bedroom also or somewhere in which case you'll need a dual or quad LNB that will give you more than one output from dish.
Thanks a million. I curently only plan on putting in in my bedroom so I dont need a quad lnb just yet. One more question: Will this site: http://www.dishpointer.com/ Tell me which direction to point my dish to aim at astra 2d? Thanks
try B and Q, same package as powercity but for 50 euros, same dish and box and cables etc. i would add a quad lnb onto it, that way you can connect more boxs at a later date 28.2 is the astra sat http://www.lyngsat.com/astra2d.html and here http://www.angelcomms.ie/freetoairsatellitechannellist.asp
what reciver did you get and how many chanells did you get need to do the same any info would help thanks
Hi, Im sort of a noob but thanks to Mooley I have tied up a few loose ends. Channels List can be found here: http://www.angelcomms.ie/freetoairsatellitechannellist.asp# What you'll need is a satellite dish and a freesat receiver. as mooley said available for €50 in b and q. Visit here: http://www.dishpointer.com/ Put in your address and click go. Then click on 28.2E Astra 2A, 2B, 2D Its the number one in Most Popular Satellites. It will tell you what direction to point it. Then all you have to do is mount accroding to the angles given on that site and run cable(s) from lnb to box that is connected to tv and hey presto!
I am fine Mickah! Regards Mooley or Sharon on sat and sun nights, but lets not talk about that! he he All good mate, hows tricks with ya?
just wanted to add tvs with a digital tuner t type can be used with a digital aerial on roof pointing to transmitter,at the moment about 5 channels and a number of radio channels.
The majority of the TV's with built in DVB-T tuners on sale in Ireland at the moment are Mpeg2 though cacti and we are on Mpeg4. They will work in UK but not here. Even though the chancers are advertising them as Freeview ready.
Coincidentally that is my setup at the moment. I purchased a LG 26LH2000 in powercity and it has an MPEG-4 Tuner. I get the four basic channels (RTE1,RTE2,TV3,TG4) in perfect quality with a One For All Amplified Aerial. It has epg and everything. But I want to have more channels too so that is why I am going for Free To Air. Also, does anyone have any experiences of the B&Q Set for 50 mentioned above? And would I be better off going for a HD Receiver such as Humax HD? Thanks
