Hi. I've been burning DVDs for awhile now using DVD decrypter and Nero Recode. Recently, my dvds won't play on my dvd player. At first i thought it was a new protection or something, but i've recently tried to burn dvds which i had previously burned and now they won't play. My old burned DVDs still play and i haven't changed up my software, so i'm really confused.

When i put DVDs in the player, the chapter reads 00 for some time before the player tells me that it can't read that type of disc. Does anyone have any idea what my problem is?

I've copied and pasted my NeroRecode log file. Burned dvds will still play on my laptop but not on the dvd player.

Edit out your Serial number before someone googles 1C82 and finds it.
Did you have Roxio installed on your computer before? If so try Roxio Zap to remove all traces of the program, this can sometimes cause problems with Nero.
    Roxio Zap

Check your Burn Speed, keep it below 12X or better yet 8X.
Also check to see if your firmware is up to date for your burner.

Upgrade to version 7.10.1.0, seems to be a more stable version.
    Nero Update

Your DMA is turned off, try turning it back on.

    DMA guide

I hope that this helps some.

Also you should upgrade your firmware to AD20.
Your laptop burner is an 8X burner using 16X discs so even with a firmware upgrade your burner may not fully support the writing strategy of today's newer discs. Try slowing down your burn speed.

I'm sorry to say this might not be a software issue.... although everything that blivetNC and dialysis1 said is TRUE!
this is a well known problem..... it's a media problem..... very simple. Why? well it's your player not being able to play the disk. The disc could be simply dirty, scratched, etc. It is possible that the type of disc you burned is not a format that is accepted by your player (for example not all DVD players read +R or RW media). There is a lot of poor and good quality media on the market and not every player will read any media. For the last two cases above a computer should be able to play these discs without any playback problems and it is possible on a different player the disc would read back fine, it is just a matter of player/disc compatibility. Some brands I recommend are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. Another reason why a disc is jumpy, skips, or can not be played on your player, etc. can be low burn quality. Burning at reduced speeds can increase the quality of your disc and make it more readable.

these are the most common reasons why a disk might not play on certain players. And don't kid yourself. Just because you bought a spindle of disks doesn't mean that ALL those disks were made the same. Many brands outsource their disks to MANY factories for production. It is quite common that in a spindle you might get 3 different manufacturer codes and therefore might not burn the same as what you are used to and plays differently in your player because it's not the same manufacturer! Here is a guide for you:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
it's not totally accurate but it's a good indication of what's out there. I disagree with their TDK listing. TDK is 2nd rate at best. Stick with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim (Singapore/Taiwan). those are the best and you'll get better results!

    one more thing:
This is the main reason why it's a media problem! Don't be confused. this IS a media problem!

I've used Sony disks for years now and they will play in all of my standalone players, even the minivan from hell player. Sony seems to be acceptable to even the oldest one I have in my inventory, up to my 2002 model player.

I recently purchased Sony AccuCORE DVD-Rs. I guess the problem started shortly after I did that, but i did have some successful burns using them.

I reburned a disc after I turned on my DMA. The disc plays perfectly. That must have been the problem.

I also upgraded my firmware and Nero software. Thank you for the prompt and helpful advice.

Thanks for letting us know what helped.
Usually updated firmware will solve the problem, but sometimes it is a combination or other factors as well.

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. It also adds more media codes and write strategies to the drive to improve burning capabilities and disk recognition. Doing a firmware update will improve your drive's performance with newer media!

doing your firmware update must have solved your media problem!
