    Hi mcornett
    Welcome to aD!
Which movie are you doing? Which program are you running in the backgound - like AnyDVD, DVD43?
There are some copy protections that give Recode a problem even w/ AnyDVD & esp. DVD43.
If that's not the case try cleaning off the disc.

    Hey binki7,

    thanks for the quick reply.
The movie is "Just Friends", but I even get this error with "Red Eye", which I've copied before.

I'm using Any DVD V 5.9.6.1. I've cleaned the dvd.

I'm using the same media TDK dvd-r and have recorded many dvd without problems until now?

lol - no problemo on the typo - I do them quite often :)

From your log you have it set to save to a hard disc folder - so right now it's the reading of the disc giving the error.
Just Friends shouldn't be a problem - Red Eye shouldn't be either since you've done it before.

So 2 things 2 try - another drive to read from if you have one or use Shrink w/ AnyDVD in the background. Very similar to Shrink. Shrink will auto burn w/ Nero. If you don't have it go can download it here:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
No multitasking also - shut down any unnecessary programs.
Try that and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise!

    Thanks for the quick reply...

I get the same error when reading either from my DVD-ROM or the DVD-R.

You're correct in that the problem occurs during the first few seconds-minutes of the reading process, I usually burn directly to dvd-r but in my feable attempt to isolate the problem I set it to burn to HD, the I get the error "unable to read from file%s".

I've used dvd shrink in the past and was very pleased with it. I'm also a licensed user of the OLD dvdxcopy platinum (although still supported I no longer use it). The only reason I stopped using dvd shrink was that it uses the nero burn engine so I thought, what the heck, just use recode 2 and thats one less program I'll have to have on my computer, but I'm rambling...

I'll do a clean uninstall of the newer nero 6.6.1.4 and reload the older 6.6.0.18 and dvd shrink and let you know how it goes.

I wouldn't say a feeble attempt -you were going in the right direction!
So now we're just trying to isolate the problem further. Changing software to rip the dvd & see how that goes.
I've seen this error w/ Recode and some burners - but my guess is that before the hard drive was replaced you were able to use Recode.
    Keep us posted!

well re-installed the older version of nero and dvd-shrink and still the same problem.
but also had problem with another program paint shop pro x also quit working! the support tech asked me one question, "had i recently upgraded to internet explorer 7, beta 2 version!

That appeared to be the problem. Uninstalled IE7 back to version 6 and now EVERYTHING is working again.

My new computer rule, never upgrade unless you're having a problem.

Thanks for all the help and time.

Not a problem - though you're the one who solved it!
Txs for posting back what worked! I can add this to the list of what can cause this error :)

Beta versions can be iffy - they're testing versions where they try and work out as many reported bugs as possible before the 'offical' release.
    Happy Burning!
